Obama Ordering Release of Illegals and BP Leaders Order Agents to Stay Away from Hot Smuggling Areas

Florence, Ariz. - Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu held a press conference today with National Border Patrol Labor Council President Brandon Judd, Tucson Local 2544 President Art Del Cueto, and Rio Grande Valley Local 3307 Vice President Chris Cabrera.

The National and Local Border Patrol Council leaders publicly respond to the unlawful orders given to uniform Border Patrol Agents they represent. Meanwhile, US Customs & Border Protection Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske has publicly called on agents who refuse to get in line with the Administration’s policies to quit. Sheriff Babeu and Council leaders said Border Patrol Agents are routinely not assigned to high traffic areas in effort show lower apprehensions and intentionally mislead the American people that the border is more secure. Brandon Judd, president of the National Border Patrol Council blasted USCBP Commissioner Kerlikowske saying, “Our Border Patrol Agents are being told to release illegal immigrants and they no longer order them to appear at deportation hearings, essentially a license to stay in the United States. We might as well abolish our immigration laws altogether."

Sheriff Paul Babeu said, "This stand down order includes a requirement that the whereabouts of illegals released are not to be tracked, which places the finishing touches on President Obama's plan to completely dismantle our immigration laws. We appeal to the American people and our elected members of Congress to join our effort to stop President Obama and this reckless lawlessness." Sheriff Babeu continued by saying he was sending an official letter requesting the US House and Senate Judiciary, Homeland Security and Oversight Committees in Congress to investigate.

Cochise County Sheriff Mark J. Dannels stated, “Once again the administration demonstrates that it does not take border security seriously. As a sheriff responsible for the safety of citizens along the border, I find it inexcusable that this administration would weaken border security by failing to put 1800 agents in the field. Today our nation faces increased threats from drug cartels and terrorist organizations, and a rampaging heroin epidemic that is damaging our communities."

We take border security seriously in Cochise County, and it’s time for Washington to do the same.” Agent Chris Cabrera said, "See something - do nothing, that's what's happening now. Our border patrol agents are even moved to slow areas to keep them from known active smuggling areas. No one should wonder why the border is not secure, it clearly by design. This is no longer about illegals or drug smugglers, we need to secure the border due to obvious threats of terrorism."

Agent Art Del Cueto said, "Our border patrol agents actually doing the work continue to be undermined by the appointed leaders in DC. We signed up to protect America, yet political appointees are handcuffing us from doing our job enforcing our nation’s immigrations laws. The American people need to know the disturbing truth about what's really happening. It's extremely difficult to secure the border when we're prevented from doing our enforcement job and constantly threatened to be fired or even prosecuted."
