The Illinois game was the litmus test to determine how good this team can be. Unfortunately, the loss to a bad Big Ten team like the many losses before Purdue, Minnesota, etc. will prove that we will have a 6-6 or 7-5 team. Even worse, I don't think we beat Vandy Saturday and once again disappoint in front of a "large" home crowd. I hope I am wrong.

It would take one heck of a win streak at this point for MT to have a great season IMO. Clearly, there are improvements to be made. Not all of them with the players either IMO. To your point, I guess a lot of it has to do with how you define special.

From what I've seen so far, I really like this team. I guess that's one of the reasons today's loss stung. The defense looks to be really improving. A lot better than the last few years. Brent Stockstill really impresses me at QB. I think a good season is still reasonably possible for this MT team. I say that with the knowledge that the schedule looks a bit more difficult than the last few years. While it admittedly might be unlikely, MT could still have a great season if they go on a wild win streak starting next week.

To me, a "special" team at this point would reach about 9 wins in the regular season. +1 in conference championship game leaving the possibility open for an additional win in a good quality bowl game. At this point, that would be a pretty special team. In gloom of today's loss, all of that seems improbable. It should be stated though that it is still possible. The season's not over yet!
