Middle Tennessee kicks off its non-conference schedule on the road at NKU Monday evening 5 pm. The Lady Norse will begin their season under 1st year coach Jeff Hans. Last year NKU finished the season 11-20, & are the preseason #7 pick in The Horizon Conference for 2024-25. Last December NKU met MT in Murfreesboro with the Lady Raiders winning comfortably 83-42 behind 34 points from senior Savannah Wheeler. With Wheeler's departure MT will be relying on seniors Boldyreva, & Gregory, along with the return of Courtney Blakely at point. The Lady Raiders also welcome back junior forward Ta'Mia Scott. In MT's 2 preseason games Scott has led the way for the Lady Raiders with 20 or more points scored in each outing.

Any predictions for tomorrow? 1st game predictions are always tough, especially when being a road game. 2 years ago predicted a comfortable victory over Mercer which didn't go well. NKU is not unbeatable at home. Theie home record last year was 6-7.
CRI got the team locked in on defensive intensity from preseason game 1 to game 2. Anticipate a lower scoring game with our primary focus once again being on defense.
Middle Tennessee: 67
NKU: 58

Just avoid the Mercer upset they experienced 2 seasons ago. The even had an early season 3-quarter scare against SIUE on the road last year. Always seems to be one non-conference road game that gives us trouble. Win the games you're supposed to. Play strong defense and you'll be in every game this year. I want to see a dominating defensive effort tonight.

It looks like this NKU team has a lot of upper classman, but they also lost at least 2 starters from last years team that lost 80 something to 40 something at MTSU. I agree that Insell will want to work hard on defense, so I see them trying to keep them under 50. I agree he is working with depth, but Insell is about his starters working together to score as much as possible and play as good of a defense as possible. With Tennessee coming up, he wants to optimize for that, but not lose one in the mean time. MTSU 70 - NKU 45

I think crassyblue is on to something. I think we'll be able to see some bench players in and doing great in this one. MT 79, NKU 52. I think Boldyreva and Blakely both have double doubles!

At the half Scott looks like an All-American. Gregory needs a bucket to drop, definitely struggling to get game going. Arike's owning the boards. Blakely excellent at point. Defense looking good. Liking the fact we're substituting freely.

I was too. I thought our defense was better than that and would keep them under 50. It is not as good as last year, but on the other hand, we may have better scoring.

You almost nailed the score. The offense & defense will both get better with time, this is just game 1. Blakely had a ton of missed layups. Those will come. Have a feeling Davis is going to play a huge role with this team as the #6 off the bench. Such a smooth shooter. CRI acknowledged Monson as the #4 backup. She played well. I think this team may have more potential than I originally thought. Scott looked in mid-season form, & may be the surprise POY when all is said & done.

#22 Kentucky played Northern Kentucky tonight at home and won by 29. By comparison, we played NKU on the road and won by 21. I'd say that's pretty darn good.

Tonight #8 Iowa State led Indiana St at the half only 35-28. The Cyclone's went on to win a sluggish game 64-42.
As a reference Indiana State's 1st game was a couple nights ago. They played Western Kentucky at home, & lost 71-59.
