...The Charlotte 49ers and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders face off on Thursday in college basketball action.

The Charlotte 49ers are dreadful this season going 4-11 thus far and losing two of their last three games. Braxton Ogbueze leads the 49ers averaging 12.3 points per game. Andrien White is averaging 11.3 points, Bernard Sullivan is averaging 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds, and Joseph Uchebo is averaging 10.3 points and 9.3 rebounds. Charlotte returns home after three road games.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are 10-5 this season and they have won three of their last four games. MTSU is averaging 70.5 points and they are shooting 43 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 67.9 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. Middle Tennessee is 15-37 against the spread in their last 52 road games, 0-4 against the spread against Conference USA, and 5-11 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread.....

I'm not nearly as confident about this game after watching Charlotte take Louisiana Tech to overtime in Ruston last weekend. Will be a tough one.

The Raiders need to go ahead and win this one. Not that MT is going to be in position for an at large, but a loss to a 4 win Charlotte would be a bad loss. ODU is going to treat MT like their super bowl, given their lack of success against MT recently.

Can't find it anywhere - not on GoBlueRaiders.com or WatchESPN.
It appears you must join and pay to watch on the UNCC Charolette49ers.TV site

Sounds like we are getting screwed in the foul department. And the limited opportunities we've got at the foul line we haven't taken advantage of. Currently 2-7 from the line.

FINAL: MT wins a thriller, 73-72.

Upshaw connected on 1-of-2 from the line with 3.8 seconds left. UNCC couldn't get a shot off after that. Wow.

My goodness. If we could hit our foul shots we would be a tough out. 47% ain't going to cut it in most games.

If there was any doubt who our best player is, I think that may have been put to rest tonight. Potts shot 9-11 overall with 7-8 coming from 3

Time to beat ODU too! Let's go 4-0 in hoops this weekend! Two great wins over Charlotte... now for ODU

Gonna have to play better than we did tonight. Have to make some free throws. Have to eliminate they long scoring droughts.

I hate the conference schedule that has me watching the women at home while the men are playing away at essentially the same time. These games need to be on different nights. There is no reason for this.

Considering that ODU just experienced a very rare loss in OT on their home floor to UAB, they will be madder than hornets when MT arrives. I was really hoping ODU would have pulled that win out vs UAB. Dang, UAB looks like they are going to be flat out good in conference.

It has the makings for a long game vs ODU on Saturday particularly if more guards beyond Potts don't find a way to step on on offense and especially defense.

In reference to some stats and observations from the last game or two, again:

MT scored >70 points - Check

MT shot >40FG% - Check

And here was the close close close one, MT have lead w/ 5 mins to go in game - sort of, maybe yes, maybe no. MT has a point or two lead at 5:01, stat reports says, Charlotte hit basket to barely take lead right at 5:00 mins to go in game. That was so close as to not know what to make out of it except that it would likely suggest just how the end of the game would unfold. MT hits 1 FT w/ 3.8 secs left to take 1 pt lead. Charlotte comes up short on being able to get off a last second shot. I'd call it a "check" since MT won, but I think calling it a draw in this stat category this time would be fair also.

Whatever, a little too close for comfort! When the game was finally over, I know I let out a huge sigh of relief.

It seems the general trends are holding up. Razer close at 5:00 mins = extremely close finish. MT win - Check. It does seem that lack of perimeter defense is resulting in a bunch of fouls in trying to recover after being beat off the dribble from the perimeter. These guards are getting to the FT line a ton and have been shooting the lights out from the FT line. Perhaps because guards are drawing the fouls, and guards are usually the better FT shooters on most teams....usually.

Long scoring droughts - no worries that is Blue Raider Basketball! Because of the way our D plays most teams are going to the foul line against us. I wish there was a way to play stout D and not have teams at the foul line 25-30 times.

Meanwhile, good teams win close games - last night was a solid win against a team that play well at home.
