The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders will travel to the Don Haskins Center to take on the UTEP Miners this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders dropped to 9-20 (6-10 C-USA) on the season after being defeated by the Rice Owls, 67-61, this past Sunday. Middle Tennessee came out flat offensively against the Rice defense and couldn’t fight back after the Blue Raiders went into halftime trailing by a 35-22 margin. Middle Tennessee shot just 40.6% from the field and 6.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. UTEP held a 33-25 lead at halftime, however, struggled on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 16-0 49ers run gave Charlotte a 64-48 lead with 4:38 left in regulation. UTEP shot 45.1% from the field and lost the turnover battle by a 30-27 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Miners was Jordan Lathon who had 25 points, 6 rebounds, and a block.

Middle Tennessee has lost 4 of their last 5 games and currently rank just 293rd in scoring offense, 286th in FG%, and 243rd in scoring defense.

UTEP has lost 7 of their last 8 games and although their defense hasn’t been awful as the rank 139th in scoring defense & 95th in defensive FG%, the Miners have had little success on the offensive end as they come into this match-up ranked just 329th in scoring offense & 325th in FG%.

Middle Tennessee is nowhere near the team we saw just a few years upset Michigan State in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament as the Blue Raiders has really struggled on both ends of the court and come into this match-up with just one win away from home on the season (1-11 Away; 0-4 Neutral). UTEP is not a very good team, however, the Miners do have a respectable 8-7 record at home and between the fact that they lost by just a 77-74 margin at Middle Tennessee earlier this season.....

really wish i knew if sims was playing. college b-ball needs mandatory injury reports 24 hours prior to each game

if anyone hears anything on sims please post it

UTEP -1.5 sure looking juicy.....

I was going to hammer the OVER 132 if Sims played.

No idea what to do now.

I really hope this team can make some noise in Frisco.

Speaking of Frisco, It looks like they are taking advantage of the permanent seating this year instead of creating both sides of temporary stands. This was a noticeable need as soon as I saw the layout last year.

I don't ever plan to attend a conference tourney as long as it is away from the core basketball schools but is anyone planning to go? Curious to what it is like. I am going to be honest....Everything about Frisco sounds nice. It sounds first class. But everything I have read seems too corporate or too box store brand type for me to ever entertain buying tickets to fly there.

I think a destination city would get me to travel outside of a venue close to us, WKU, Marshall, UAB, etc. but no matter how nice Frisco is, it is NOT a destination city.

Not a big fan of our Commish, but the 2 year contract to try Frisco was a huge upgrade from B’ham. I liked going to B’ham as it was an easy 3 hour drive from ATL. A few spots near the BJCC but nothing on the scale of where the tourney is now. Have family 25 minutes from Frisco so have been to that area 3-4 times, including last years tourney. Cool place & vibe. Not a Cowboys fan by any stretch but all the Cowboy player recognition was well done, including the massively huge tv screen & playing field entering the venue.
We were blessed to take the trip of a lifetime to Australia/NZ/Fiji the entire month of February so unfortunately for the first time in 6-7 years will miss the tourney. The thought of making a 12+ hour trip to Dallas 11 days after being gone a month did not sound appealing. And I especially hate that due solely to how the men’s team has overachieved, given what they began the season with.
Guess we could debate all day long whether DFW is a destination city or not? It makes ATL seem small!
Fort-Worth gets a bad rap as being Dallas’ little brother. MT played Navy there 5-6 years ago in a bowl game and we thoroughly enjoyed FW. A ton! We spent 2+ hours doing the Texas Book Depositary tour downtown Dallas. Would do it again. Last November we toured Jerry World. Great tour, and really got you behind the scenes. Much better than our tour of Madison Square Garden. We are not big museum folks but the Ross Perot Science Museum was well done too. Lastly, Bush 43’s Presidential Library is on the SMU campus.
Because one of our daughters and her family live in the north Dallas ‘burbs, we get there 4-5 times a year. We never get bored. I can’t say enough about the immediate area around where the tourney is held. Nothing but fun and all 1st class.
