Middle Tennessee travels to Nashville to take on 4-4 Belmont. Don't let their 4 losses mislead one to think it will be an easy outing for the Lady Raiders. Belmont's losses have been to Kansas State, Ohio St, Duke, & Michigan. The Lady Bruins are coming off a recent 63-55 victory over Lipscomb. Last year Belmont defeated Middle Tennessee 71-57 in Nashville. Real GM game predictor has the game as a 2.5 point spread & favors Belmont to win Saturday's contest 65-63.
To win Saturday's matchup Middle Tennessee must continue to show improved shot selection & field goal percentage.

Time to avenge the 14 point loss from last year! Belmont is a tough team to read. Their 4 losses are all Q1 and all their wins are Q4. One thing is certain they will be well coached.

The biggest reason MT lost at Belmont in ‘23 was the 13 for 24 shooting from 3. 2 of their starting 5 are gone including Kilyn McGuff that scored 22 points and 4/5 from 3. Kendall Holmes (#35, 5’10”) transferred from South Dakota and she leads the Bruins with nearly 12 ppg. Holmes was actually a transfer portal target for Insell because of her career 34% 3FG. Emily La Chapell (#21, 5’11” G) is another player that has embraced her new starting role this year and averages over 10 ppg and positive A/TO.

Much like last season, MT has the advantage in the front court with Boldyreva size. Where it got us in trouble last year was Kendal Cheesman (#14, 6’2” C) shot 5/7 from 3 last year and spaces the floor nicely. If you can keep them from getting hot from deep it will change the complexion of the game.

Belmont isn’t the same offensive threat they’ve been in years past, but they anre one of the top defense in MVC. Our backcourt is more athletic and our front court is defensively up to the challenge today. I expect a low scoring, defensive battle today. I hope they seize an opportunity to reassert their dominance over Belmont today.

  • With the first NET rankings of the 2024-25 season released Monday, the Bruins sit at No. 64.
  • Last season, Belmont finished 71st in the NET.
  • All four of the Bruins' losses this season have been against teams ranked in the top 20 of the NET.
  • Belmont owns the third-highest NET ranking in the 12-team Missouri Valley Conference with No. 54 Murray State leading the league, followed by No. 60 Northern Iowa.
  • The Blue Raiders enter the weekend ranked 52nd in the NET.

Belmont 22-15 at end of 1st, MT not playing at a high level, if this continues without a fix, it will be an embarassing loss

Belmont has some shooters. We can't hit anything.

Missed layups are a MAJOR problem. Wide open looks at the basket just clunking (Blakely is particularly guilty of this). Eventually they've gotta start falling, right?

Two things: Belmont fouling WAY too much for their own good and Blakely shooting WAY too much. She's 1 for 7! And most of those have been OPEN LAYUPS.

Belmont executing the same gameplan as last year, hitting their threes and backdooring us to death.

Luckily they are in some foul trouble.

Belmont is playing tougher than MT for sure.

They are deeper as well, MT played six, BU ten

Really need to see the backdoor work its way into our offensive gameplan. Right now it seems like we just rotate the same 2 or 3 plays over and over...

Blakely 1/6 with 3 turnovers and Bouldreva 0/4 with 2 turnovers. That tells the story of the 1st half. Ta'Mia really struggled guarding LaChapelle.

Down 5 at half is good considering how slopy we were. LA Chapel is soid for them. Monson has chance to be that player for us.

That would depend on Insell actually using his bench, which he isn't today. And we're losing, surprise.

Lots of clunking shots left and right. We need a lot of work on offense.

These are good players but they are playing timid, like they have no confidence
Hard to win when your PG is 1-6 with 2 assists and 4 turnovers. Really need to switch something up on offense because this is NOT working today.

end of three 45-39 MT still trails

Boldyreva still without a FG

Frustrating showing on offense today. Same story as we've seen in past years - near zero bench use and anemic offensive output. It's not complicated, when we don't play our bench, the offensive output suffers big time. Savannah Davis had 12 points last game and saw the court for what, 1 minute so far today?

ESPN+ production by Belmont is terrible -- mid court camera just stopped working, now we have this terrible angle... announcers getting every other call wrong -- "2 shots for Gregory" after she's fouled on a 3... names wrong...

Posts getting double and triple teamed and guards just watching, not getting open and yelling for the ball. How are the coaches not screaming what to do???

Horrible loss today. No other way about it

Offense a disaster, defense leaving 3 point shooters open all game. Just awful

Belmont much more physical. Better than their record.

Haven't won in Nashville in since 2000. That's three straight to Belmont. At a loss for words.

Disappointed in the defense more than anything, and Nas had probably one of her worst games as a Lady Raider.

Hopefully the only place we can go is up from here. Extremely disappointing loss. Should be a wake up call for the team
