Middle Tennessee & Purdue both bring 3 game winning streaks into the Elevance Fort Myers Tipoff holiday tournament. Purdue brings excellent size into Thursday afternoon's matchup. The Boilermakers have 6 players all between 6' 2" & 6' 4". While both Middle Tennessee & Purdue both would look forward to a Saturday afternoon showdown against nationally ranked Iowa St neither team will be overlooking their upcoming opponent beforehand.
Thursday's Thanksgiving game can be seen on a wide variety of streaming formats via the Women's Sports Network. Viewing alternatives include options such as tubi, freevee, Roku, plex, & fubo.

Will be at a family Thanksgiving dinner come game time. Anyone with the ability to record & download the game to our site for some late night viewing please do! Go Lady Raiders!

This should be a good one. Purdue plays South Carolina after us, so hopefully they're looking ahead and we are NOT because we can't take this team for granted even though we are favored. I think we win by 15-20, but you never know what could happen. Going to need to feed Nas in the post over and over here I think, let her kick it out for 3s as needed.

I love this matchup for a multitude of reasons. My favorite being the opportunity to beat a program that would otherwise look like a game we should lose just from a name recognition/national view. Make no inferences, MTSU is the better team on Thursday and should be treated as a heavy favorite.

Purdue is one of the worst scoring defenses in the Big Ten (2nd worst) allowing 73 ppg. A big chunk of that was allowing 102 to Notre Dame but they have played a rather weak schedule since and allowed 66 ppg in those 4 games (which would make them 3rd worst in Big Ten). Another mark against them is averaging 18 turnovers per game which is bottom 100 in the country. A solid effort on defense, similar to what we saw in the first half against FAMU could get us out to a sizeable lead early. That is another important note, in Purdue's 4 wins this year, they have outscored their opponent (on average) +8 in the first quarter. The margin dwindles significantly from there (+1 in 2Q, +4 in 3Q, +2 in 4Q) which shows me they play there best basketball in the first 10 minutes. If you can get to them early defensively, this is a team that has a hard time getting out of a hole (trailed ND 28-7 after 1Q).

Scouting their roster, they had a big pick up with Reagan Bass (#34, 6'2" F) from Akron. She leads the Boilermakers with 15.2 ppg and 7.6 rpg. She's great at getting to the rim and can shoot the mid-range well. Destini Lombard (#4, 5'9" G) is second averaging 13 ppg and will be familiar as she transferred from Stephen F Austin. The Lady Raiders beat SFA 72-47 LY where Lombard was held to 2 points in 27 minutes. Lastly Freshman Center Lana McCarthy (#35, 6'4") has been impressive in her limited minutes. In just 19 minutes/game she averages 11.2 points and 7 rebounds. When she exits they'll bring in Freshman Kendall Puryear (#22, 6'3") who has a big presence and can rebound.

Purdue is best in the front court, but were silenced in their one game against a quality opponent (16 combined points). I think our front court is one of the best at the mid-major level, if not the country. If you can limit their front court scoring, make Lombard beat you, which we contained her well last year, I like this matchup for MTSU. Only other key is stop them from getting a fast start on offense. This again should hopefully prepare us well for an even stronger frontcourt, Iowa State on Saturday. Just take care of business tomorrow.

If MT wants to be taken seriously for a high-ish seed, this is a game they absolutely cannot afford to lose. 1 big win won't get you a 6 seed or better, but 1 bad loss almost guarantees you won't when the conference is bad.

Hopefully Monson paid attention in practice last year and provided some good insight on Purdue

I'm in the same boat. I was kind of hoping they might replay the game late at night.

South Carolina just had its 43 game unbeaten streak broken by UCLA. Iowa St after getting beat by a G5 just barely survived another G5 in Drake.
Have a strong feeling Staley will have Carolina on the warpath, & will be out to destroy Iowa St.
Thinking SC by a minimum of 20 in this first tournament game.
For Iowa St today's game will represent their 3rd straight back to back to back extremely tough game. Plus this one could be an absolute butt whooping. Definitely not getting ahead of the Purdue game, but it will be interesting to see how up or down Iowa St comes to play us after today's game with Carolina.

For those interested. Found very easy download of all WSN games to your cell phone.
Google Women's Fort Myers Tipoff.
Next, go to 2024 Event Schedule.
Next, each game is listed.
To far right of each game click on "Watch Live"
It's a direct free Roku link to WSN.
Next, create a free account (takes 20 seconds)
Just tap play & you're watching WSN live immediately. Very easy setup.

I was able to get the WSN to load without having to create an account at the below link. This is on Tubi's website.

I have Roku. Under sports, it shows the SC/ISU game at 1230, but MT not listed. I did find the WSN channel also, so guess I will try that at game time.

Purdue is gonna be a tough one. I think we have a quickness, size, and skill advantage but we'll see. Get a win today, and ISU awaits after this hard game against USC. I liked our chances against Iowa State already and South Carolina is straight up exposing them right now. I think Nas has a quickness and height advantage on ISU (Crooks will be a challenge but I think Nas is better).

Good win! Never felt like we lost control even in the final minutes.

54 points against a team that allows over 70 isn’t ideal. Let’s hope they saved their buckets for Saturday.

Quality minutes from a few off the bench tonight. They don’t show up on the stat sheet but they played good defense.

Hard fought win. Listened on the radio. Wish someone would tell Joe that Coach Courtney's last name is Whitson, not Wilson. He says it every time he lists the coaches. Not a biggie, but not a good look with her being a former player.
Glad I wasn’t the only one hearing that haha

I didn't think about it until post game, but tonight was one of those unique circumstance games for a team like Middle Tennessee.
First you have to take the court after one of the nation's most highly anticipated games of the holiday season. Then when you do take the court you're playing another well known school from a Power conference out of the B1G, & you're the anticipated favorite to win as a G5 despite having only a fraction of their athletic budget. All of the pressure was on MT tonight.
I think tonight was a pure case of jitters because of the pressure to win was in a very unique setting for them. Did we play like crap offensively tonight? At 27.5% from the field you better believe it. Anyone looking at that stat alone would say we got beat by 20 tonight, minimum. But defense travels, & we have an elite one.
Despite the fact we play a much better team Sat the pressure will be off compared to tonight. Look for a better shooting night from the field Saturday afternoon. We may get beat by 20, but I have a feeling we'll play looser, & smoother Saturday than we did today. It's time for Ta'Mia to break out, & give us another 26 point effort.
