BASEBALL Middle Tennessee (2-2) vs Miami (0-4) series, February 23-25, 2024

In the bottom of the 6th, Middle gets a RBI fielder choice and sac fly. This is followed by a solo homer by redshirt freshman Brett Vondohlen (first hit of his MTSU career)

All in all, a 3 run inning to make it a 10-5 game thru 6.

Miami (OH) - 10 / 11 / 0
MTSU - 5 / 9 / 0

To be where we want to be, pitching and hitting, this early in the season, needs to be better than a MAC team. That may be my southern bias talking, but good grief...
The pitching definitely needs to take a step. Outside of Kota Sato, they don’t have a starter I trust to go even 3-4 innings

Kerrigan allows a run and the Hawks go up 11-5 and have runners on the corners with two outs for new pitcher Caleb Peterson

Gabe Jennings with a RBI triple to make it 14-6 in the bottom of the 7th.

Gabe on 3rd with Rutter up and one out causes a pitching change for Miami (OH)

Trace Phillips is picked off after a pitching change to end the inning. MT trails 14-9 going into the 8th.

The Blue Raiders have scored 7 runs in the last two innings..

… but have given up 6 runs in those two innings

Goldstein allows two more baserunners to load the bases, but does get an out before being replaced by Justin Lee.

J-Lee will face bases loaded with one out 😬
Got a sac fly for the second out but the relay throw got past second allowing another run to score. That was followed by a hard single that brought in another run.

Miami (OH) now up 17-9 going to the bottom of the 8th. Everytime this lineup gets back in the game, the pitching puts it back out of reach today

Gabe picked off at first but Briggs brings in the runner from 3rd. Down 17-12 with two outs in the inning

J-Lee responds with a 1-2-3 inning and has three outs to score at least five to extend or win this game

MTSU plates another run but ultimately drops the rubber game 17-13.

Coach Meyers hot at the end about a call and might be reasonbly so. Looked that way from up top. Will have to see espn+ replay. Was the difference between runner on 2nd and two outs and runners on first and second with one out.

It was 3-2 and home plate called it a ball, but 3rd base ump said he didn’t check his swing and went around when they went to him. Certainly looked like he kept it from crossing the plane live
