I see a fluke 23-22 loss here. It’s what we do with new FBS opponents. Their QB is going to kill this defense either with his legs or his arms (or both).

-10

Love KSU + the points. Have a great chance to win outright. This game is a coin flip at best

A couple of updates. None of our staff was able to make it to the press conference today but per Brett Walker of Sidelines, defensive coordinator Brian Stewart will move to the press box and defensive lineman Alex Williams will miss the rest of the year with injury.

One would hope this will let Stewart adjust better with him seeing the whole field from above. Most teams usually have their DC in the box for what it's worth. Losing Williams is massive as he was a band-aid for the DL where he could play all over but nose with his combination of size, length, and athleticism. With how the roster was previously constructed now down to just the nose tackles and former strongside defensive ends. Oof. This team just doesn't have the personnel for a 3-4 base AT ALL

I'm guessing by the lack of comments on this game we are probably looking at a late November type of gathering.

Random tuesday, chilly outside, one of the worst teams in the FBS playing maybe THE worst team in the FBS....It's a battle for something at least right ?

Yea, I think it's safe to say it'll be a traditional November gathering. Not many will be watching either

I'm inclined to agree with this.

Derek Mason didn't forget defense overnight. Same for Stewart. Their system is definitely more pro-oriented and needs bigger guys to run effectively. The question for me is why they aren't adjusting.

Good point. Sounds like an excellent post game or mid week question.

3-4 at our level just seems like a terrible idea in my opinion. We are gonna get ran all over with only 3 DL. I much prefer the typical 4-3 front for schools like MTSU

I wondered that myself, play to utilize the strengths of the players you have. With all the injuries, maybe we are where we are.

At this level (G5), if I liked odd fronts, I'd probably base out of 4-3 under. Present as 4-3 but function as 3-4 with one gap principles.

Nickel would be 4-2-5...may even create some sort of hybrid SS / LB guy to buzz.

Thats what I think as well. Teams playing true odd fronts and 2-gap really need a NT that can consistently demand a double team and 2 LB that can take on OL blocks 1 on 1. I get philosophy, but given our personnel I think we should look like a 4-2-5 with 1 gap principles, press coverage on the outside and a 2 high safety look as our base D. Theoretically, we can walk Harris down in run support and we should have speed with the 4 other DBs to open up pressure opportunities.

We share the same question
