BASKETBALL Middle Tennessee (7-2, 0-0) @ Belmont (7-2, 1-0)(ESPN+) 2:30PM, Saturday, December 7, 2024

Say what you will, but we fought our guts out to have a chance. And we did have a chance in the end. I have been saying it… we are a different team with Counter. We have REALLY missed him. He makes everyone better. Need to find some head hunters for the ball and keep one on the floor at all times. I’m frustrated with the loss, but knowing what’s ahead I think we are okay. Gotta play 3 tough ones in a row now.

Counter should be starting over Weston imo.

This was a tough game for Counter to get re-acclimated with the team. Wish he could have gotten 10-15 minutes of play in the Rhodes contest to knock off some rust. I think the outcome may have been different. Hate to lose to Belmont, but that was a heck of a late push on our part.

If he didn’t play today, we don’t comeback from being down. Probably balloons up to 25 or so in a loss. He put himself and Porter in great positions to get buckets.

Counter was out with an illness against Rhodes. Not related to the knee injury.

Despite the men's loss tonight I think this team is on the right track. When this team gets to the point it can put the 1st half of the USF game together with the second half of the Belmont game then we're looking at a pretty formidable team. Now that we have Counter back I think that time frame could be just around the corner.
For the first time in close to a decade I think the development of the men's team is doing better than the women this year. Never expected to be saying that.

I 100% agree about the men developing better than the women. I went to both games yesterday and saw a ton more effort from our men.
I think Insell needs to retire. The game has passed him by.

For the benefit of the 2025-26 women's roster as a whole I hope you're right. We have a lot of new talented faces next year, & it would be great to see what each will be capable of on the court. But if CRI is coach I doubt that will ever happen. I can't think of 2 coaches with a more divergent coaching philosophy of Caldwell at UT, & CRI at MT. With Caldwell her philosophy is if you're on my team I'm going to "trust" you to come to practice & give me your best effort on the court. With CRI his philosophy is come to practice, & I'm going to pick out my 5 favorite players. Even if you shoot 1-10 from the floor don't worry you're going to get 36-40 minutes a game. The rest of you unless we have a comfortable lead set back & enjoy the game because you're no more than a glorified bench warmer.
I'm really tired of that. Not just as a fan, but for the players as well. Appreciate what CRI has done here, but it's time to see if Matt has a different approach to the game.

If we don't start utilizing the talent on the bench they will start entering the portal and go somewhere to get playing time. Different world now.
