FOOTBALL Middle Tennessee(1-2) vs Duke(3-0), Homecoming/'24 Hall of Fame Class, (ESPNU), 3PM, Saturday, 9/21/2024

Goodness those Group of 5 guys for the past few years have been trashing the hell out of Blue Raider fans for not buying tickets and going to games because of MandM and now they are acting like they are the ones that discovered how horrible MandM are. Good grief ugh.

It’s because their buddy stock got fired. It’s amazing how now they bring it up when we have been discussing it here for a dozen years. If stock was still the coach here they wouldn’t be talking about it.

Everyone has to have a damn agenda to protect their buddies or sources instead of just wanting what’s best for the university and seeing past their biases.

That's exactly why things haven't been questioned for so long. I hate to say it, but it's the truth. I mean when was the last time any coach or CM or McP was asked a truly uncomfortable hard question. One they couldn't dance around. Certainly no one since Sparks left.

Yet another reason I'm not an AD. Someone would ask me if I'm happy with MBB. "Nope. I told him to get his ass in gear and win at least 20 games or I'll have a moving crew at his house by the end of the season packing up his kids' toys."
Yeah...I wouldn't last long as an AD.

I do wonder what took those guys so long to finally say something. They were hammering on the fans for years about not showing up and wanting Stock fired. Seriously, why now? How long have they been doing their show?

Is Massaro still on a monthly contract? That speaks volumes as far as I am concerned.

To be fair the G5 Guys did say that there was a problem they just always said it wasn’t Stock. They’ve said before that the university leadership was the issue. The issue everyone had to with them was they thought Stock had no blame in anything and that the fans were to blame for not showing up. The difference was the fans viewed all three as an issue and they only viewed M&M but also torched everyone that thought Stock was a problem. We’re 1/3 of the way to being better off. M&M would need to go next.

The problems were, in order:

1. McPhee
2. McPhee
3. McPhee
4. Steve Smith
5. Nick McDevitt
6. Chris Massaro
7. Rick Stockstill

It's so typical of them to axe the person who was the least problematic and try to scape goat them. I would have been perfectly okay with keeping Stockstill and firing everyone else instead. That's what should have happened actually.

Stockstill had to go.

Who gives a flip now anyways.

Not arguing that but he was the least consequential of the 4. I see a world where Stockstill would have had a better overall outcome if he was supported more after he was initially hired.

After being here a decade plus his fate was pretty much sealed. You can't just start winning conference championships after being somewhere for 15 years with a lack of support said 15 years. Not making excuses for him, that's just reality.

He should have just went to Memphis or East Carolina when they offered him.

Regardless, I'm firing McPhee, Massaro, and Steve Smith long before I am firing Stockstill if given the choice. McPhee and Steve Smith in particular are the far bigger problems. They are the source of the never ending bad decisions made by the University.

Think about that for just a moment. Even with slightly better players think about the coaching staff, the nepotism, the refusal to remove position coaches where development clearly wasn’t happening, etc. CRS was a .500ish coach regardless of facilities. Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

Not to mention recruiting. CM said himself that Stock didn't like his staff traveling and being away from their families. It's why his staff skewed older because they were content to follow Stock's wishes. The zero relationship with Rutherford county and the mid state was a huge issue too.

McP is absolutely an issue and Smith for extending him. I truly think CM has been hamstrung on a lot of things. There have been some bad decisions absolutely. But I think a lot of bad things were McP pushing.

But I agree. With Stock's philosophy he just is what he is. Regardless of support. Would it have helped, sure. But we still weren't gonna get 3 stars or jump to 10 wins. And from a fan standpoint, that change had to be made regardless of who is calling the shots.

But it is what it is. We have Duke in town and an opportunity on linear cable, a great HOF class tonight, so let's make the most of it.

I spoke to CM in the grove last week. Not a reporter but he was just watching our TV. He told me the only good thing he has done is hire Insell. I asked when he was retiring and he said he still has a few more years in him.
