FCS National Championship

I actually looked around for that info while watching last night. And if any of you didn't watch, missed a great game. (Still don't know why Montana St didn't put a returner on that last punt to give it one last shot)

43 FCS schools have NIL. NDSU is one of them with a collective and NIL store, including champ merch. Having won 10 of the last 14, I'd say their $ is one of the best in FCS, but they also have proof of a winning culture. And like Boise, kids buy into that. NDSU has had 4 different coaches for those 10 champs.

It also is a well run program admin wise. They spent $6.4m on football this year, good for 26th in FCS. Montana State spent $8.9m, highest in FCS. By contrast, we spent around $10m in 2023. They get a share of the $920m NCAA media deal, the MVC has a deal with ESPN and CBS, and they sell their third tier rights to regional carriers.

With NIL and the now $5m fee to jump to FBS, I'd stay right where they are if I were them. They could easily avg 8 wins a year, but why do that for some bowl when you can win a National Champ? Yes they are leaving some $ on the table, but their name recognition, and thereby enrollment, is impacted more from the champs than a bowl win I would think.

The bowls have been devalued to the point where it's not really a worthy goal anymore, IMHO. I used to watch all of them. Now, you tune in, and half the players have "opted" or portaled out, or one team just DGAF. We even had a team in Marshall that just didn't even bother to play.

I still think we need a mid-division between FCS and the P2 with our own rankings, playoffs, etc. I'm not interested in "dropping down" to FCS, but I watched that game last night, and at least those players played hard and cared about winning - which was more than I can say for the bowls I watched.

I watched last night and it was a great one to watch.

I agree with Doug and his thoughts on the bowl games and current state of them.

They both wanted spots in the MWC along with South Dakota State and Montana, but the MWC didn't give the time of day. They all wanted to come together.

I doubt a mid division will come, the top FCS and G5 will be together sooner than later.

I think that would've been a great move for the MWC. I'd be fine if Judy tried and somehow got them, but I seriously doubt they would accept or she even try.
