I wonder if this is a tournament where some teams (p5) get to go to the islands and the rest never even get a whiff of the ocean.

This looks like a Maui trip for the guys, based on the tournament format this season. This season, it's Tulsa, Stephen F. Austin, San Diego State, Southern Miss, San Francisco, Utah, Illinois State, and Hawaii. All games played in Honolulu.
It was the Maui Invitational where we played in the "Mainland" portion of the "tournament" during the 2011-12 season. That is when we beat UCLA but UCLA still went to Hawaii.
