NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz brings his campaign to Middle and East Tennessee tomorrow with indications he may be leading in the state.

Polling data shared with News 2 from top Republicans show the Texas Senator as currently the top preference statewide among GOP voters.

The data from the Republicans who requested anonymity shows “Cruz leading, with Ben Carson second but fading, Marco Rubio third and Trump forth, but all relatively close.”

“That’s sounds about right,” says Beth Campbell who co-chairs the Rubio campaign for Middle Tennessee. “But Marco is the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton. We expect to see him here after the holidays.

A top Cruz supporter who heads the grass roots effort in Tennessee says the campaign is “the best organized” among all the candidates vying for delegates in the Tennessee Primary on March 1st.

Myra Simons of Murfreesboro told News 2 the groundwork is being laid for a Cruz victory in the March primary.

“Slow and steady,” said Simons about the Tennessee strategy. “That is coming to fruition in Iowa, we feel like the same thing is going to happen in Tennessee, and it is already beginning to happen.”

She’ll be one of the organizers of the Cruz event at downtown Nashville’s Rocketown facility Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Senator Cruz will be in the Knoxville area earlier Tuesday before heading to Nashville, then goes to an event in Arkansas later in the evening.
