Maybe those that were in a fraternity/sorority.What "fun" are they not allowed to have?

Hopefully this thread doesn't go south and some decent discussion can be had.

That's a stupid comment. Does he want greeks to have more freedom than the rest of the student body? is he wanting to drink at games?

I don't know what prevents them from showing up. Apparently its preventing independents from showing up as well.

I do know almost everytime I read or hear something about fraternities at Middle Tennessee, it involves disciplinary action or embarrassing actions of a few. Never have understood why you never hear about sororities getting in trouble or now that they have taken over what used to fraternity houses on campus, you never hear of them losing the house. You would think sororities and fraternities these days are drawing a similar population in terms of goals, academics, and backgrounds.

I know that we got away with stuff and did stupid things in college (not a lot different from Animal House) that are frowned on or actively and strongly discouraged and heavy handed disciplinary action meted out.

I can't see why any of that keeps students, greek or otherwise, from showing up.

Probably referring to the fact that so many greek organizations have lost their charter or been kicked off of campus and not very many left is my understanding. Administration seems very anti-greek.

Well when you throw parties on campus and have alcohol or you are hazing then you are breaking rules and laws. When we were in school you could just get a slap on the wrist for doing stupid stuff. In the age of social media and over the top political correctness, things that were swept under the rug in the 70's 80's and 90's will get scrutinized more heavily so universities have to get out in front of stuff before it blows up in their faces. I don't think the university is anti greek they just have to cover their tails which means greeks may and will get harsher penalties a lot quicker now than in the past. As stated abive I'm not sure how this has any bearing on going to a football or basketball game

I wonder if all the Fraternities would have stayed off campus if most would still be all around. How do other universities handle the parties? Aren't Bama and UTK on campus?

I think the big problem is when the University reports and incident and the national organizations find out - they have zero tolerance.

Not sure what the answer is, but the Fraternity row at MT has been a disaster on many fronts.

I always thought the best move would be a sorority row on campus & a fraternity row off campus.

Sorority on campus - I have seen it help recruiting.

Fraternities off campus in a row - keeps the complaints to a minimum and the parties way from on campus police.

This is ridiculous. I was in a frat at Miami and our administration was very keen on cracking down on on-campus activities and parties under Shalala. We had a fair number with off campus houses, etc., but that is NOT A REASON TO NOT SUPPORT THE ATHLETICS PROGRAM. Miami may have suspended a crap ton of the Greeks while I was on campus but that didn't stop us from going to games and having a great time -- especially basketball games.

Let me just say that it is really stupid to punish athletics because you feel the administration isn't supportive of on-campus Greek activities. News flash: admins everywhere don't like on-campus Greeks. Get off campus. That is the way to go. The off-campus frats at Miami are never touched b/c they separate themselves. That's what you gotta do.
