This is good news. Replacing DJ Sanders is not going to be easy. That dude was a player.
I can totally see Smith being a great MLB. The safety instincts should translate well because you've gotta make split second decisions playing the Mike. If Cody can maintain the physical tools to compete at the position (It's notoriously physically difficult to play the position because you've gotta battle with guys bigger and stronger than you) then he will be great for us because he has the speed and athleticism to get it done. What a great surprise.
Also great to read the JUCO Avery Jones, who only had NAIA offers but I loved his film, is pushing for a starting spot as well. I think we will see both on the field regardless throughout the games. Avery Jones is too fast for his size to keep on the sidelines. Maybe throw him in at DE.
