I am not saying we should win but that game could be interesting. Their strength is the DL which matches our strength being the OL. New QB and new line will force them to be vanilla pretty much the whole game. I don't see a blowout at all. I see a couple of interceptions and a closer ball game then some would expect. I think this is the best chance we have ever had to upset a top 10 team. Just sayin....

I don't think that will matter. Their 3rd stringers are still better than our starters.

If we keep it within 4 TD's I will be happy

Our best chance to ever beat that bunch was back in 2002, I believe, when Andy Mac was head coach. We actually had a great chance to win the game until the referees called a phantom "defensive holding" on a player that wasn't even at the game. The refs made darn sure we weren't going to win in a close game.

I heard one of their beat writers say this may be the most talented defensive front that Savannah has had while at Tuscaloosa.

I'm gonna say this as nicely as I can....you must be outside your mind.

Hey, a fan has to dream. I'm just hoping the game won't be a nightmare.

Well, if we were to ever a chance to keep it close, the stars are aligned. That's IF Alabama takes care of Wisconsin the opening week. If they were to lose that game, we'd be in for a beat down. If they could beat Wisconsin in like triple overtime that might help us a bit. We are squeezed between home games against Wisconsin and Ole Miss (who I believe beat them last year?) so you can bet they won't be focusing on us.

We get our first game against Jackson State to work out the kinks and hopefully keep it vanilla so we can open it up down in Tuscaloosa. I wouldn't write this off as a loss if I were Stock, however; it seems our program never gets up for games like this minus the trip to Georgia Tech.

But really this is a big opportunity. The game will probably be on national TV in some capacity and there are a lot of recruits in Alabama who will have their eye on the game. Regardless of the outcome, I hope we give it our all and don't go in thinking we are doomed from the start.

They have just as many questions as we do, and will be breaking in a new QB and DB's. We need to be aggressive as hell to make this happen. This will be our best shot, and just like our GA kids had a chip on their shoulder for the GT game. The Bama kids will too, especially our QB who is from Tuscaloosa.

Fans can dream. Appy State beat Michigan, ULM beat Alabama. Like other posters have said, if we can keep it under a 3-4 TD differential, I'll be ok

I said it is our best chance. Didn't say we would fireball. What do you think the spread will be?
I don't complete understand the spread stuff from a gambling standpoint (I don't bet) but I would be SHOCKED if it was less than 21 barring an unforeseen collapse or injury on Alabama's part.

Bama doesn't have a QB but their D will be one of the best we've ever played let alone this season which is just plain scary as heck. I think if we score one TD on them it's a win no matter how much we lose by.

They are gonna run the ball and not take chances. With that line, they'll do about whatever they want. Again, if we can just hold them to under 30 and get a TD, I'll take it. It sounds lame I know but Bama is Bama and at home. That's a mean place to play.

I hope we drink down a batch of super soldier formula and shock the world but we'll be outsized and outgunned in this one I'm afraid. I hope we don't try to run on them as a first option like we tried on BYU last season. If we can't run on the Y, Bama will end up putting this one away in the first.

Outsized? Have you seen our team lately? Massive DNA change in the trenches. Last year Bama would of beaten our brains out but this year our strengths and weaknesses match up as good as you could expect. Bama wont win 10 in regular season this year.

I would expect the spread to be >30 and maybe >35 depending on what Alabama does in its opener against Wisconsin. I have no fantasies of being competitive in this game, no matter what Alabama has to replace from last year's team. Saban has proven that his teams reload rather than rebuild.

A couple of things here...
1) A different recruiting philosophy. Alabama recruits boys that are naturally big and athletic. MT recruits boys that are small(er) and hopes they can grow into a bigger body without losing athleticism. It's SEC vs CUSA recruiting at its finest
2) Alabama is deep. They don't just have 4 and 5 stars on the field, they have them on the bench. Athletes everywhere. Sometimes I wonder if the Bama water boy was a 4 star WR on Rivals
3) Coaching. With respect to Stock (I love the guy), Saban is a proven winner. Only 4 times in his 19 years as a CFB HC has Saban had 7 wins or less. While I'm not as familiar (to be honest, I'm not familiar at all with Coach Stock's coaching methodology), Alabama's famed "Process", when followed, is among the best in the business.
4) DNA change in the trenches may keep the game close(r) but it more than likely will be a blowout.

How did Lafayette/Monroe? win a couple of years ago.

ULM beat Alabama in Saban's first season when the Tide went 6-6. Since then Alabama has been a machine. There is no comparison to the Alabama team we will be playing and the one that lost to ULM.

They beat top 10 Arkansas and almost beat Auburn the following week. They had a good quarterback with a good supporting cast. Physical offensive line. Kind of like we have going into this fall. If we could only find an answer at cornerback. If Alabama beats us by 30 I will be shocked.

The ULM team that beat Saban, as RT mentioned, is not the same Alabama team that MT will face, nor was it the same team that beat Arkansas and took Auburn to the ropes. Arkansas was being coached by none other than John L. Smith (hardly a Petrino whom Smith replaced).

But back to Alabama, Alabama is much deeper and much more talented than the 2007 team (Nick Saban's first year IIRC)

I actually think our top 22 can go toe to toe with Alabama's top 22 this year (with all their new players).

The problem is once you get deeper into the game and our top 22 starts getting tired and Alabama's top 22 just gets replaced by another 22 that's just as talented.

I figure we'll hang around for a bit, but I have a feeling that Alabama will probably just out athlete us eventually.
