I don't think we have to worry about too many in the fan base expecting an above average year. With what has been experienced in the past I think most would be surprised with a winning year.
31 regular season games this year. For CNM to lock in an extension believe he needs 19-20 regular season wins + make it to the CUSA tournament championship. That would give him at least 21-22 victories. From administration perspective they would pprobably consider that good enough to give at least 1 or 2 year extension on contract.
That's 3 CUSA Tourney wins and 1 NCAAT win, so finish the regular season at least 21-10 (or 25-11 with a R32 exit in NCAAT = 70% win), and he still has to beg for his job back next year. You drive a tough athletic department Mr. Wiley.25+ wins and NCAA tournament wins or nothing. And I still may not even extend him.
andHate to be so negative
This guy is doing everything humanly possible to save his job with no regard for next year or the next
Football guys are in person. Idk about other sportsI was told that most of these guys take online classes the majority of the time.
So much for the “college classroom experience” and acquiring adequate social skills.
😂😂
7 of the 13 scholarship players are new to the team this year (including Alston). Over half of the team is new and 5 of the 7 are expected to see double-digit minutes on a nightly basis.Mostly the same players from last year
Considering your argument started off with that fallacy, you can't fault the team for literally trading in half the roster for Senior players with D1, starting experience. Much like you're entitled to your opinion, mine is that the staff did the necessary things to make this a deeper, more competitive roster in CUSA. Would I be upset with anything less than 20 wins this season, absolutely. Because I think this roster is talented enough to push for a CUSA title, especially if this team performs better on the road (we can all agree on that). Why should we expect anything different this year?

The schedule has been considerably easier since he has been coach especially compared to the later Kermit years. It’s much lower if you take out the Division II and III opponents he sticks on the schedule. At least a dozen of his wins come from those types of games.
I think he knows this is must win mode. His roster is mostly senior players.

We are kidding ourselves if we are expecting anything more than a 500ish kind of year. There's nothing to indicate that this team is improved or can challenge for a title. I'm expecting another year of anemic offense and poor road performances, a McDevitt staple. I'm sure we will have a few big home wins which will be nice, but those usually just make the losses sting even more because they end up feeling like such a let down.
Hate to be so negative but this is a team that won 14 games last year. Nick's overall win % at MT is 43% over 6 seasons, which is actually INSANE. Why should we expect anything different this year?
ETSU loss to High Point today 71 -56. That makes our loss to them look even worse.
I got into a Twitter beef a while back over the whole gatekeeping thing with how someone who went to MT shouldn't pull for UT over MT.
It dawned on me from some of the responses the whole college experience is gone. It's no wonder there isn't connection anymore to G5 schools.
I spent all four of my years here, lived on campus for three of them. At three meals at the cafeterias. Studied in the library. Went to club meetings.
Developing that connection is long gone now.

As someone who transferred 2x in undergrad and again in graduate school, I figured out how to find the programs that took the MOST credits and didn't fall behind. Unfortunately that program was the standard, meaningless Interdisciplinary Studies degree. My guess is the athletic advisors are doing the same. I could be wrong.Honest question.
How are these kids graduating?
I transferred a measly 12 credit hours for college classes I took in high school and that was a pain. I can't see how these kids are getting the classes they need and not losing credits during multiple transfers. Some players are at four schools during their career.
