FOOTBALL Fall Camp, 2024

Nashville channel 5 sports Steve Layman just ran another short about MT football fall practice along with its normal Tennessee Vols & Titans reports this evening.
As news was signing off Steve & the News 5 anchor took a moment to talk about how excited they were to see how things are developing in the Boro under Mason's direction this fall, & wanting him to strongly succeed. I rarely have heard Layman say or bring up one positive thing about MT athletics. Great to see some positive enthusiasm from Nashville media. Have the feeling Nashville's currently showing more attention to MT football than ever before. Can't put a price on how positive local media exposure like that is also free advertising for the program. Not only can help the team's growing ticket sales, but also places MT in the minds of young recruits in the area considering their next school. Hope it keeps going.

FOOTBALL Fall Camp, 2024

excerpts:

"....Mason and the Blue Raiders have eight 2025 commitments from Middle Tennessee: three-star prospects D.J. Taylor (Riverdale RB), Kyle Larkin (Ravenwood OL), Ben Hubbard (Brentwood WR), Neo Clifton (Brentwood Academy WR) and Rai'keyrean Chandler (Shelbyville RB), as well as Rockvale's Bryan, Independence athlete Taylor Lawrence and Ensworth linebacker Micah Smith....."

"...MTSU signed no Middle Tennessee area players in former coach Rick Stockstill's last high school signing class (2023). The 2022 class had two signees (one from Rutherford County, Oakland OL Ethan Ellis) and the 2021 class had one from the Midstate (Tullahoma safety Jakobe Thomas)....."

Culture

For those of you who have followed my diatribes over the years, you've heard me talk a lot about culture. Well, that and branding. The one thing that really sticks out to me - and I'm not even close enough to really see the small things that demonstrate it - but I can tell even from great distance those small things are most likely there and that he's building a championship culture. I'm certainly not going to say it happens immediately, but I don't think it's going to take him long to have MT at the top of the league contending for titles. As someone who's immediate reaction was ire, I'm really impressed with what he's bringing to campus and genuinely believe it will translate on the field.

FOOTBALL Middle Tennessee vs Tennessee Tech (ESPN+), 6PM, Saturday, August 31, 2024

Our marketing department has really stepped it up this year. It makes me wonder if it was Rick and mostly him that was holding us back.
On media day CM sat with Chip & Joe and talked stuff like that. Chip mentioned there's a running joke that if more than four people get together in the 'Boro, Mason is there. Which is great.
CM stated that Stock preferred his staff to have a family balance so to speak and didn't like them traveling for recruting, being gone alot and wasn't crazy about them being out in the community.

While I respect family comes first (I changed jobs a few years ago because of that), I only feel that way to an extent. Coaching is the job they chose and for a G5 especially, that includes traveling and being out and about. It just does.

Things like that really do make you wonder. I've heard players say Stock had them do community service every year, but he didn't like letting people know. Again, I respect that to an extent, but again, as a G5 you have to broadcast when you are out and about like that. The signs all over the place showing CDM. Things like that just weren't part of Stock"s personality and it hurt us for a lot of years. I'm glad Mason and his staff understand all that and push our marketing team to cater to their strengths.
