FOOTBALL So the spread is currently Louisiana Tech -4.....

Is it safe to say the honeymoon is over????
For me it is. I was calling for 5-7 to 6-6. I'm calling for 2-10 to 3-9 now. We'll pull out a win somewhere but don't ask me who.

Mason's tenure is either gonna wind up with one hell of a turnaround or go down as one hell of a salesman.

For what he has done off the field, I'll absolutely shake his hand. He's shown what a school like MT needs on that front with regards to fund raising, alumni and community engagement, etc. But on the field, freaking disaster. I've said this was the meat of our schedule. Well, so far we are doing nothing but getting ground up ourselves. Guess I had my blue goggles on in the dark and couldn't see it.

Looking at this stats this morning. Holden Willis. Arguably our best weapon, especially with Omari Kelly needing aome of the sticky stuff lately.

In the 1st qtr he was thrown to 4 times with 4 receptions for 73yds and a TD.
Rest of game, 3 times with 1 catch for 6yds.

And it's been that way every game. You can't tell me he's been shut down every game amazingly after the first quarter.
Our OC is not competent. If Mason was anywhere near a head coach he should have been riding he OCs azz to use Willis until LT could stop him.

I've been watching football for over 45 years now. MT at +4 was easy money just like Jax was with a 20.5 spread. WKU was also easy peasy. It's tendencies and matchups. Once I heard that LaTech's HC was letting his co OC call all the plays, I knew it was a wrap because now they are a different team and we were prepping defensively for the HC to call the games. We have the worst D in the country so it was gonna be a bad night and I knew that. I also had JMU crushing coastal. JMU is one hell of a program.

4-0 with money in the bank. Let's go.

Holden Willis had three receptions for 57 yards on the opening drive
And then it was as if he had met his target limit for the game after 7:35 into the 1st qtr. Our coaches & play calling do a great job of beating MTSU for the other team. Half way thru the season & they still don’t know how to use this guy throughout a whole game. SMH

How are we going to recruit better players to this? We are looking at 1-3 win season, + no NIL (portal is about $ for quality dudes), last season the recruiting pitch was about a new era, and I hate to say it but it doesn't look promising. Hoping we can hit on player evaluation & get some FCS gems with experience...
We will see but suggesting to just disregard the portal was something. I get what Wiley was trying to say now though. Best chance would be to get some actual size up front if they are actually going to run a 3-4 and hope you find an actual edge presence to pair with that imo

Do you just want them to not add anybody to try to fix problems lol

I can tell you with almost absolute certainty they'll line up almost all the same guys on the back 7 next year assuming they don't graduate/transfer. I highly doubt MTSU can do much better than what we have.

A big part of the problem is our nonexistent DL. Only way we ever get any pressure or a sack is with significant blitzing. With such a weak front 7 and DL you need superstars on the back end to have any chance. If you want to help our secondary you have to put some pressure on their backfield. As of now you could put Alabama's DB's back there and they would be struggling.

With regards to the portal, I'm sure they'll try. But I just don't think we will see results much different than what we see now. We have some good HS talent committed, maybe they will sign. With these coordinators, I don't think it will matter much. I don't think people understand just how bad our defensive coordinator is. I have voiced my concerns since the TN Tech game but I guess it doesn't really matter.

His play calling is reactionary instead of proactive, he lets opposing offenses dictate the terms and flow of the game (Understandable against Ole Miss, not when we are playing TNTech, La. Tech, Memphis), never has us in the right calls in key down and distance situations, and his players miss tackles like it is their job.

Whatever happened to taking chances between the 20's? Light this F'ing guy up. Why let him get comfortable and do whatever he wants?

They will be able to offer instant PT, that should interest a few guys.

Should bring a successful FCS coach with the players.

So there is a talent issue but they shouldn't add better, more ready talent this offseason?

Nah. We are past things "not going our way."

This team is just severely lacking in the talent department. There's a reason Omari Kelly was in the portal and ended up at a school like MT. And that reason is very clearly lacking reliable hands. You can have all the speed and shiftyness in the world but if you can't catch the ball reliably you are not going to play for a good program.
I never thought I would want Stock back. At the very least his coordinators.
