Monson definitely deserves more time on the court. She's one who I think can find a rhythm with more time and easily a better scoring option than some of the others. She's a menace on defense, a little too aggressive on occasion which gets her a little out of position, but I like her intensity along with her mobility/length.

heading out to Vegas in 2 weeks. Going to catch the UNLV game against SDSU while there. went on to UNLV's rivals forum and introduced myself and asked where to go pregame etc(they play at allegiant). They seem pretty stoked that a MT fan would come out to see a UNLV game(not the main reason but still). got invited to a couple tailgates already, they seem like a fun interesting lot. Apparently there is a very nice "adult entertainment" place right by stadium, they recommend the wings lol. Stuff like this is why I love college football. Ill report back on the "wings".

Went to a UNLV game about 12-13 years ago. UNLV was not very good. Attendance was probably about like our Kennesaw game if that. I think this one will be better attended.

Just some notes/thoughts after the two exhibitions.

Rick Insell said they need to find another 4, someone who can consistently playing behind Arike if/when she comes out. We saw the combinations of Boldyreva/Grannum, Arike/Grannum, and Arike/Milanovic the most. Experimented with Boldyreva/Hamby, and Kabernick/Boldyreva seldomly in the second and fourth periods. I think Grannum is the clear first big off the bench, but we miss the scoring production when Arike is not on the floor, to CRI's point. From what I've seen in practice, Kabernick is a scorer at all three levels. She is lacking the physical defense I know they need from her and a lot of these younger players to keep them on the floor. I'm also surprised we didn't see Monson get some reps at the 4 in these two exhibitions. She has the length and would be an upgrade on offense compared to any other bigs.

Scott with two double-doubles. Minus the free throw woes last night, Ta'Mia has the makings to be a superstar. I know we already know that, but I mean that on a larger scale. She plays with a level of aggression and shoot-first mentality that I would not be surprised when we get to March, she's averaging 15 ppg. She may be the surprise CUSA POY candidate when it's all said and done.

Blakely is more of a scoring threat than we remember from '23 where she averaged 7 ppg and 2.6 apg. The question this offseason, "How do you replace Wheeler's scoring production?" Scoring 10 points on an off-night shooting (Scored 21 on Friday) and 14 assists to 5 turnovers in two games is a good indication if she's not scoring someone else will. She just runs circles around defenses.

The point guard duties have shaken more than I thought they would. When they run Gregory and Blakely in tandem, either brings the ball up the floor. When they run their half court offense it ultimately lands in Blakely's hands, but they're both comfortable there. Davis has been the first off the bench. I think Davis' defensive intensity is what sets her apart from Harrison, today, and we saw that on Wednesday. We saw Harrison miss an open three late and she shied away from her next open opportunity and opted for an extra pass showing her traditional PG tendencies. I see a lot of potential in both Davis' and Harrison's game that will take time. I think they're both capable of scoring in bunches in due time. Truthfully Blakely and Gregory are just too valuable on both ends of the floor.

On the Gregory note, I'm not alarmed by the shooting in the exhibitions. She had a slow start last year and still ran away with the CUSA 3PM lead on nearly 36%. She'll be fine and still shows she can score under the rim manufacturing some points in transition.

Wife and I stayed in Vegas for two nights on our way to Seattle. The food scene in Vegas is WOW.

Allegiant looks incredible. Just incredible. Would love to catch a game there.

FOOTBALL Running back Frank Peasants intends to enter transfer portal

No big loss. I always thought he was too slow. When a hole was open for him he would hesitate.
Certainly not the fastest but he definitely would've been helpful for a veteran back that could grind out years between the tackles. Intersted if they try to add someone to the mix or let freshman Austin Clemons (will redshirt if he misses one of the final four games) step into that role

Sloppy game. Believe CRI was right when he said they have to change the team's mind set immediately. They are only thinking about one thing right now, Tennessee.
Hopefully they can rely on developing maturity & getting their heads right. Gregory, Boldyreva, & Scott must realize there's too many important games directly on the horizon before venturing to Knoxville.
But at the same time I get where they're coming from. Just can't afford an early season slip up.
I recommend the coaches go back & pull video of their 1st road trip of the year to Mercer a couple years back. Ouch! That should bring back memories of looking too far ahead.
I don't disagree but UT-K is Game #3, not like they are on the backend of the non-conference schedule. Don't think the veterans will forget about losing to Grand Canyon last year either

We are, as expected, the real Blue Raiders! Attendance was 2,015 tonight. Boldyreva had 18 points and 19 rebounds! Scott with 20 pts 11 rebs another double double. Starters were pretty good, bench needs more production. Really off shooting night but still won 71-32.

Mayor shame

As an outsider not in the Boro, this is REALLY bad optics.

I could understand if the UT coach was from the Boro and played at Oakland or somewhere. But dude is from Missouri and played there from what I've found. Has zero connection to the mid-state at all. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It's the same as Troy or Jacksonville giving the key to Saban. Makes zero sense.

McFarland is saying you can be fans of both. Yes, you can. But as Mayor, he should put MT first. Period. If he was at every MT game no one would bat an eye if he went to Knoxville on our bye week. But that obviously isn't the case. He put UT over the school that made Murfreesboro what it is.

I don’t know. I think Omari is happy here. Frank entered last offseason and was kind of always on my radar for a portal entry.

Will have to find someone who can run in between the tackles and grind out those yards like Frank can tho. Credle is an outside zone runner and Middlebrook can’t handle that workload at his size, Altho I think he’s clearly the best back on the team overall to me (including Frank)
