Prior to the season a fellow MT fan and I were discussing the upcoming season and we agreed, as IIRC have several posters, that this schedule contained more than the usual "toss-up" games and that the Illinois, VU, and WKU stretch would set the tone for the season.

Win all three - perhaps the most memorable season ever
Win two - quite possibly conference champion, most prestigious bowl ever
Win one - possibly bowl eligible (again) with what would be considered a "good" season (not a "good" thing). C-USA championship not out of the question
Win none - forget it

The possibility of a win or wins over a "power 5" school has vanished. The opportunity to build the fan base and have improving home attendance during the season is lost. We have squandered the possibility of increased media converge for now. So much has been lost.

But, we are 1-0 in the conference, the C-USA championship is still possible. All of our losses so far are to "power 5" schools. (you did look at what Illinois and Bama did yesterday - can't compare scores but can't help looking). We will not, let me repeat that, will not face defenses remotely comparable to Bama, Big 10 Illinois and as much as I hate to say it, VU. The future is in front of us. I'm trying to wait until after next Sat. to give up hope.

Go Beat Western!!!

I think we underestimated the schedule.

Illinois looked like they were DOA when the fired the coach a few days before the season, but they actually look pretty decent so far. Alabama looks like Alabama after murdering UGA.

And frankly, Vandy's defense was better than I gave them credit for. The monsoon played right into their hands with us having a passing based attack, and the Vandy linebackers were all over the place.

I didn't . I said in pre-season that this was an incredibly tough schedule. A healthy Offensive Line would of produced two wins over the last two games. Our D has been impressive.

I sure did. I didn't think much of Illinois or Vandy.

If there is a loss this Saturday then the average fan is out of the game. Conference title hopes dashed and not much else to else to say...
