In Denton, TX, the Raiders (3-2, 2-0) reversed a 5-year curse and beat North Texas 35-0 for the first time in six attempts and improve to 3-2 on the season. MT had a combined 212 yards rushing, led by 88 from Eugene Gross. Touchdowns were scored by Eugene Gross (2), Bobby Williams, DeMarco McNair and Desmond Gee. DB Phillip Tanner recorded his first career sack.

J.K. Sabb would be named Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week. He forced a fumble on the 4th play of the game and finished with 8 tackles, 2 for loss, and 1 sack.

In Murray, KY, MT (1-3, 0-2) lost to #10 Murray St. 34-7. The Raiders started the scoring with a 2-yard run by Lebrian McGill but the Racers scored 34 unanswered points.

10-1-96: In Conyers, GA, Maine Brock played below par for all three rounds for a tournament record 208 in the Mizuna Peach State Invitational.

In Richmond, KY, Middle Tennessee (1-3, 0-1) lost 28-3 to Eastern Kentucky. The Raiders were held to 39 yards rushing on 35 carries.

9-25-76:
In Murfreesboro, Middle Tennessee (2-2) shut out Morehead State 21-0, holding Phil Simms to 11 of 30 passing for 148 yards and an interception. Mike Moore rushed for 202 yards. Jeff Shockley caught 2 touchdown passes from Mike Robinson, who also ran for a score. Robinson's 218 yards of total offense would earn make him the OVC Player of the Week.

10-1-66:
In Bowling Green, KY, the Raiders (3-0,1-0) beat Western Kentucky 33-9. MT was leading 13-9 in the 2nd half when, in a span of 4:06 of game-time, Billy Walker threw a 75 yard touchdown pass to Herb Owenby and 63 and 10 yard touchdown passes to Bob Hlodan. In the 1st half, MT had a touchdown run from Larry Mathews and a 70 yard punt return for a TD by Steve Edging. Billy Walker would be named OVC Player of the Week.

In Bowling Green, KY, the Raiders (2-1, 1-0) beat Western Kentucky 7-6. MT lost 5 fumbles, 3 inside the 20-yard line. Tillman Harris had 11 carries for 93 yards. The touchdown was a pass from Jimmy Dunlap to Bobby Locke.

In Murfreesboro, in MT's first game since the end of the 1942 season, the Raiders beat Jacksonville Teachers College 21-0. Leonard Staggs had a 51 yard touchdown run. Bill Nesbitt and Hillary Martin also had touchdown runs.

9-26-36:
In Nashville, TN, the Raiders opened the season with a 45-0 loss to Vanderbilt.

I remember being at that UNT game in 06. That is about the time that UNT's sunbelt shine was wearing off. Stock's first year and our first bowl trip as a 1-A member. Fun times.
