FOOTBALL some non cusa re-alignment news

Pretty sure that's the reason Rice, FAU, & the other CUSA programs are heading to the AAC.

FWIW, the AAC is making the same mistake CUSA did with expansion & realignment. It's focusing too much on market size & hoping market size = television revenue.

It is. But we also know once OU and UT leave the B12, they will most likely add more. Most likely from AAC. I don't see them adding SBC schools. Maybe lower level P5s if they bigs split off.

I absolutely could be wrong. Everything could change and is in flux with the possible P5 split off, SEC/B10 joining, in other words, who knows.

And you are right with TV. My hope is when all the dust settles in a few years we will wind up in a geographically fit conference and be able to develop some true regional rivalries.

That would require sustained success on the football field, in the stands, and far better leadership than the current cast of clowns has provided the last eight or nine years.

I hope it happens. We need changes at all levels. Sooner than later.

My guess is Memphis would block an AAC move

Memphis will probably be in the new G5 conference, formally the B12.
Once OU and Texas leave the P5 will be four conferences and the B12 will not be one of them.

That's my guess. And it honestly wouldn't surprise me if it becomes P2 when it I'd all said and done. The SEC/B10 add a few other powerhouses (money talks) and boom. They do their own thing and say screw you to the rest. There are many possibilities and we are at the bottom of every single one.

With the playoff contract expiring soon, we as MT have a VERY small window to make a difference and make a move, and sadly, I honestly don't see it happening as long as our current admin/staff is in place.

Memphis is still holding their breath waiting on a ruling from the NCAA’s IARP
for the Level 1 violations mess Penny has created. It doesn’t help their realignment efforts at all.

Any realistic chances for MT to fill one of these open slots? We all know our admin is pathetic but could a case realistically be made to add MT? Any chance it actually happens?

if I’m Messaro, I would approach the AAC and say here we are, pretty please pick us. If they don’t like the money MT has spent on athletics, make a solid commitment to invest $xxxx as an agreement to add us. A guarantee to invest. Anything they want.

I don’t see AAC as a dream conference for MT, but CUSA has because so embarrassing to be a part of, we have to make a push to get to AAC.

Agree, it will be the new c-usa to a smaller scale...

We have to make a push to get anywhere. I'm not all high ho on the MAC (was before simply over current CUSA because it was an option, but it absolutely isn't the best place for us).

SBC would be great rivalry wise (especially if WKU goes) as well as geographically, but has that bridge been burned? Who knows.

AAC...it will be REALLY interesting to see what their new TV deal draws with the changes. No way they pull what they were with two cureent top 20 FB teams and top MBB too. But I dread seeing what the new CUSA deal will be. At this rate it'll be student run on YouTube.

I really just want CUSA to go beg ESPN to take us back. We take no money, they cover our production cost and we provide all content to ESPN+. We get a few games on ESPN/2/U/NEWS, limit the week night games and get our championship games on ESPN2. I think those are realistic and we’re already hardly making any money. Let’s just make it easy for fans to be involved. Sign a short deal and renegotiate after the conference has a little continuity together.

Before I reply to this...just to be clear my comment above on student run on YouTube...NOT a knock on students. Their productions are great and often better than what some networks put out. That comment was a knock on Judy and my lack of confidence in her being able to get a network to sign.

Which leads me to reply to your post EWG.

I think your idea is a fantastic one. Show ESPN that CUSA understands the mouse house controls college football and the conference wants to be part of it and is willing to make concessions to get their foot back in the door.

But I'm not sure Judy has that foresight. If she did, we wouldn't have lost 3/4 of the conference. She has done everything reactivate and nothing proactive.

Nothing she has done instills any confidence in me and I truly do not understand McPhee and others' love for her.

I'm guessing they like her -- there's too much competition in college athletics -- approach.

Diversity vs merit hire. Maybe the bulk of the newer member Presidents are better businessmen and at first opportunity will send her and her staff packing.

Seeing announcements of this being the last season in CUSA for the AAC bound teams, this is a good time for a review of all the fun in the 3Ms world.

For starters, the remaining and new CUSA programs aren't that bad in and of themselves. FIU being the unfortunate exception.

The bitter pills for MTSU & WKU are "Judy, Judy, Judy."

Another bitter pill is simply being one of the few left out from the mass movement of similar positioned and experienced or similarly D1-A aged programs that you had mostly been associated with for 20 years.

Another bitter pill is being left out of the movement of some to a similar level conference that is consolidating geographically with decent to good programs ie the SunBelt. It was a smart move for those schools and the SunBelt, in my opinion.

Regardless of the external factors, the huge bitter pill is the actualization of the failure of MTSU's leadership. It has been an embarrassment. They appeared to be caught unaware of the latest wave of realignment. They may have been aware, but it was the appearance, PR, or community relations, or all of the above that added insult to injury. So after the huge wave passed and MTSU was left out, then M&M announce the new facilities building plan. It has really been unbelievable to behold.

I have little to back this up, so call it speculation, but these G5 moves in this last big wave almost appears to be orchestrated by ESPN. Somehow, it would seem, McPhee didn't go along with that program when he declined the seemingly big obvious option of the MAC. Again, this is just my observation and speculation.

Lastly, the new AAC appears to be little more than the CUSA of the last 5-10 years.

I think worst case scenario for us is the AAC loses 2 future members and decides to back fill with GaSt and ODU. From there the SBC adds WKU and LT then holds firm. I think that is a more likely scenario than most people think.

Run as fast out of CUSA. It’s become an embarrassment and obviously the lowest division. I would have taken the MAC if there wasn‘t a glimmer of hope we could move to AAC.

the last thing we need is more poor leadership. We have M&M already, coupled with Judy and it’s a disaster. Run s fast as you can to the AAC and tell them we will do anything they want. If we don’t and stay in CUSA we are going to be left for dead in college athletics. Never to be a Thought with expansion again.

Commit to the AAC that we will spend $xxx to improve our program.

Whatever happens to us, it is deserved. We spent 2 decades watching our colleagues build new weight rooms, IPFs, stadiums, athletic complexes, etc while our administration ignored our major athletics programs.

our admin took our place in G5 sports for granted, with zero desire to push to the next level or even maintain the status quo. And Stockstill and his staff, plus fans and former players in the know, have been telling our admin this is a problem going back to circa 2006/2007 shortly after Stock arrived and we kept losing recruiting battles to Troy because they had better facilities.

this isn’t some new phenomenon or realization. People in the know have been asking for upgrades and dirt to be moved for 15 years and nothing was done. We built softball stadiums instead.

and now it’s too late. So whatever happens to us, wherever we end up, it’s well deserved thanks to our pathetic admin that has zero foresight
