Move thread if you want. Where does the money go? Tuition skyrockets while MT receives funds from countries below.

Middle Tennessee State University got almost $34 million - $29 million from Saudi Arabia — in part to pay tuition for Saudi students — $1.4 million from China, another $3.3 million from Scotland and Oman.

1. This isn't unique to MT though - see the latest Harvard v Trump stuff - something like 29% of their student body is foreign. For some reason, you can charge insane prices to these folks who want to send their kids to the USA (probably because of our lax citizenship laws and that's a foot in the door, but I don't want to start that debate here).

The thing is, Harvard's a private college, they can admit whoever they want and charge whatever they want to them. The only public funding they get is ostensibly for research funding.

MT's a public college. A large portion of funding comes from the state and taxpayer. They should not be any for-profit motivations. There's no reason to admit Saudi or Chinese students no matter what they pay.

2. On the other hand, with declining enrollment #'s, maybe we shouldn't be turning away anyone that wants to come....and if you bring a hefty foreign check with you, so much the better.

3. Does it matter? We see 34 million like it's a huge #, but in the grand scheme of funding a university the size of MT, is this some negligible amount....or is it like 10% of our budget? I don't know.

This is money received since 2005….

Of the $311 million to Tennessee universities since 2005, $20 million came in last year.

MTSU’s tuition is low compared to others. They could add an extra $200 per semester and it really wouldn’t affect enrollment. I don’t think asking for this is that crazy imo.

I think he got on the wrong thread. But, is the $1,031 charged to every student or just the $313 Athletics portion? I have no idea.
It is based on hours taken, but majority pay full amount. My understanding is that $60 something of the $90 something fee increase is for the athletic department. Don't hold me to that, it's been a few hours.

I got it on the wrong thread. The majority of that money, to my understanding, would be going to the Murphy Center.
