"Middle Tennessee Athletics secured 100 percent of the funding for the $1,000,000 project from private donors. "

The more decisions Chris makes, the more I feel like he is a real life Michael Scott from the Office.

Michael promises at risk kids college tuition if they graduate HS, then offers them laptop battery when he can’t follow through.

Chris shows us the new football facility, then 3 years later offers up a golf training facility.

The competence level between the two is similar.

I'm old enough to remember when there was a hold on a baseball stadium until a softball field/bleachers were erected.

There have been new facilities/major renovations to track, soccer, softball, baseball, tennis, golf, while football facilities have not changed other than cosmetic or minor improvements since the late 90's expansion. Murphy Center is still awaiting the major renovation promised in that video several years ago. Our two major sports have been the most neglected facilities.

There are a number of reasons for this.

1) These donors who have some cash to throw around are tied to the sport itself. I saw this first hand when I worked in the AD years ago. There is a tight knit community of supporters to specific sports particularly MT’s baseball, tennis, and golf programs. Most of these supporters couldn’t give two shits about football or basketball.

2) For this reason, it’s really the coaches who foster these relationships with the donors not necessarily the AD. They just need an AD who will help them green light projects once they do have the funding in place.

3) For those who do care about the school more broadly they are likely redirecting any expendable donations away from football for obvious reasons that don’t really require further explanation.

At this moment, football is a self licking ice cream cone. We’re in a vicious cycle that has no resolution until massive change takes place. Football didn’t win enough or key games (worse usually laid eggs in such moments) which has run off the fan base which has destroyed fundraising and revenue. There are no facility upgrades coming because there is no money.

To be fair, I saw a bunch of people on the board and elsewhere who kept saying the athletic dept at least needs to show us a rendering or give us some idea what we are giving money for. You all said if they would just do that you would be more likely to give money. Well they did that. How many of you called the next day and offered up your donation for the renovations?

I am sure that this funding had something to do with the golf course itself, (i.e. a partnership or tax writeoff for the course).

I am sure this wasn't a difficult venture if I was guessing.

I'd trust those groups that sell stale candy bars and popcorn to raise more money than this crew.

This press release/facebook posting does bring up to this MT fan several questions.

Is the home course for MT golf now The Grove rather than Indian Hills? I understand hosting events (conference championships, invitational tournaments, NCAA tournaments) at The Grove since it is a championship level course. I have no problem with out of county outreach but I really doubt this does much for MT support in this area of Williamson County. Homes in The Grove are in the 1 million range, not exactly a MT demographic for fans or students.
What happened to the "state of the art" facility at Indian Hills which the program touted so highly only a short few years ago?
Finally, who owned the previous facility at Indian Hills and who owns the facility at The Grove. I have a feeling MT no more owns this off-campus facility than the tennis facility the team uses in The Boro. (I know, I gave to the tennis facility but will be more careful next time to make sure I am contributing to MT and not some other entity)

I must really be way out of touch, because I thought Champions Run in Rockvale was the “Home” Course for Blue Raider Golf and they had constructed a facility there for Blue Raider Golf. Ray Pearce is my home boy. 😂

I knew it was previous to The Grove and I was trying to remember if it was more than a dozen years ago that they built that facility there at Champion Run, still less of an interval since the football stadium expansion/renovation.

I stand corrected on the Champions Run Course. Not living in Rutherford Co. and not being a golfer the only in-county courses I am aware of are Stones River and at the VA.

I think its great that donors want to better their preferred sport. More power to them. I just hate that other programs have to depend on football to pretty much exist. I don’t give a crap about golf. The sport is dying.
