Middle Tennessee's Lady Raiders look to return to the winning column after their 1st loss of the year to the Tennessee Lady Vols 75-89.
Alcorn comes in to the Murphy Center sporting a 1-3 record against very tough early season competition. Alcorn State's 3 losses have been on the road to North Texas, Mississippi St, & Alabama. Alcorn St is not a total push over. While MT will definitely be the favorite in Sunday afternoon's contest Alcorn has excellent speed & athleticism, & as a team hungry for a D1 victory should not be overlooked.

I didn’t spend as much time scouting Alcorn State as I have other opponents but I was impressed with how put together this team is despite my predetermined notion that SWAC teams are not well coached. They have plenty of seniors to go around and could be a surprise candidate to win the SWAC.

They have two players in particular that stand out: Zy’Nyia White (#0, 5’6” G) and Destiny Brown (#5, 6’3” F). White leads the Lady Braves with 9.5 ppg and does her damage getting to the rim despite her small frame. Not a threat from deep (29% 3FG LY on 56 att.) but is crafty with the ball in her hands. Brown does all the dirty work carrying her team with 6 rpg. She is the tallest player Alcorn State has 5 blocks in 3 games. She wants to put up a lot of shoots but struggles scoring contested buckets down low.

D2- Adams State transfer Sharmayne Finley (#20, 5’10” G) has had a good season with limited minutes. In just 40 minutes through 3 games she has scored 28 points on 48% FG.

It goes without saying this game should not test the Lady Raiders more than they want to run a clean game and get some quality shots up. You have two SWAC games in the next calendar week before your trip to Fort Myers and it’s all about running your offense efficiently, rotate some playing time in the front court, and gain some shooting confidence before Purdue on Thanksgiving.

We beat them by 32, very good game AND we played the bench most of the game which was great to see - definitely hope the bench use continues. Jada Harrison had a fantastic game. Compare our win margin to #22 Alabama who won by 29 and Mississippi State who won by 28. Plus, their coach said we were the best team they had faced all year (at least defensively).

Night & day difference from the free throw line for Boldyreva & Blakely. Combined, both Boldyreva & Blakely finish 14-16 from the line. Considerable improvement from the other night in Knoxville. Of course much less pressure at home in Murphy Center.
Glad to see additional minutes for backups. Also glad there was no emotional hangover from UT game. Good sign of a mature team.
I believe we can learn from that loss, & have some solid performances in the upcoming holiday tournament.

I thought Jada had a great game also She can really shoot and the team ran smoothly while she was running the point.

If we get to play Tennessee again in the tournament I would like to see Jada & Courtney both on the floor together. Combining their ball handling skilks MT could turn UT's high pressure trapping against itself.

As happens in games of this type, thought it was kind of sloppy. Shooting needs to improve as we seem very inconsistent. But glad to see him playing more players early in these types of games

Definitely the time to get the sloppiness out and corrected plus nerves taken care of. Experience on the bench will pay off later in the year.
