BASKETBALL Middle Tennessee has posted its 2024-25 Men's Roster

Just reviewed the 15 players for our 2024-25 men's basketball roster. Have no idea what kind of team we will have, but I sure liked all the smiling faces on the roster post. Nice job fellows!
Gets kind of old reviewing a roster where 50% of the team looks like they're having mug shots forced on them.

Wow! Half the team is seniors/Grad students. Gonna be a huge rebuild in order after this season.
Yeah the lack of recruiting at the end of Stock’s career going to show up soon. Even the guys that entered the portal were veterans looking to play elsewhere. There is some young talent on the roster but nowhere near enough young depth at this point. How fast the young players on both sides of the line of scrimmage can play will be crucial

He meant BBall, but your point is valid for it and FB both.

This day in age G5/Mid-Major schools will be full of young and old guys, with very few in-between. All those in the middle transfer out for "greener pastures". Makes it very hard to build true depth. The days of redshirting nearly every freshman are over.

CDM as he says may not be in a rebuild, but for sure is in a remodel. He isn't starting from scratch with a new foundation, but absolutely is having to restructure it to make it stronger (ie bigger on the line of scrimmage) than before.

CNM is all in on this year. Which if it really is a contract year makes sense, but if he stays or not it'll be hell next year for sure whoever the coach is.

I can tell you. But I’m surprised you don’t already know.
I suppose I was thinking of a break even campaign versus another typical losing season. Like many of us I don't put too much stock in another 26 win season happening. The coaching acumen just isn't there with these guys.

Ah gotcha. Misread the thread title. Yeah I would say it applies to both so you're right there haha

Wanted to recommend the Blue Raider Podcast that dropped a couple of weeks ago for the men's basketball team. Jestin Porter straight out predicts 20+ wins for this team. You can tell he & CNM are highly charged about the talent improvement up & down the lineup.

I think it is possible they win a lot this season. It is an upperclassman heavy team. They should be an NCAA team imo. I’m worried Nick will do that and secure his job and we will be horrible next season as the entire team will be gone pretty much.

A 15 man roster in which 9 of the 15 are in their final year of eligibility makes for a scary 2026.

No chance we make a tournament with this head coach

I think that's the new baseline moving forward due to the portal, probably the case for most mid-major teams. Every season will be a mostly new squad. If that turns into wins, I'm fine with it. I have always thought the portal is kind of an equalizer in basketball. Kids want minutes. If an upperclassman is 6th or 7th man at a P5, finish your college career at a mid-major playing 35+ mins a game and fill that stat sheet. Dendy, Jacory Williams and Nick King come to mind.

I'm cautiously optimistic for this year based on what I have heard. Probably the most talent CNM has had here.

Men's schedule for this year should boost their opportunity for a winning season. The following lists the scheduled P4 pre-conference opponents for our men's & women's teams.

MT Women's P4 opponents for 2024-25:
Tennessee
Iowa St
Purdue
UCLA
Kansas St
Princeton (equivalent to P4)

The NCAA average was 6 transfers/graduates per team last season. The issue I see is those 6 are usually a couple transfers that were not getting playing time, a couple graduates and a couple transferring for greener pastures. So of those players, 3-4 per team were contributors. Our issue is likely all 9 will be either main building blocks or role players. We’re not losing anyone that isn’t expected to get solid minutes and that’s before anyone decides if they want to transfer. We could be looking at replacing 12ish players out of 15 based on historical data.
