BASKETBALL Middle Tennessee (7-3) vs Cal Baptist (5-5) (ESPN+), 6:30PM, Monday, December 16, 2024

Team is showing they can compete in the league. I’m just hoping we don’t run into a conference team like the MVC teams we’ve played. Efficient on the offensive side with limited turnovers and can shoot well. That’s our worst matchup even if they are not athletic. I like our chances against any other style of play.

Lipscomb is exactly that type of team. We have to improve our offensive rebounding, three point shooting, and limiting turnovers.

MT hasn't shown it can play a complete 40 minute game yet. The closest may have been our first game against ACU. Raiders have shown the ability to play in spurts with intermittent droughts offensively. As said above efficient teams like Lipscomb have proven to be a tough win for MT. We are better with a healthy Counter at point. Having him available freed up Weston to come alive. I don't think Weston could have been as efficient & explosive if Counter had not been on the floor.

ESPN has MT a 56% favorite over Lipscomb. Lipscomb has a 96 net to MT's 125 currently. ESPN also has Lipscomb as the ASUN Bracketology representative recently moving them up to a 13 seed.

Those areas have been the Achilles heel in years past. They’ve looked drastically improved in 3 of the last 4 games in the 3PT shooting and TO department (single digits vs. CBU and UAB).

The one area that is telling is the FT Rate. In all 3 losses, our FTR is below 30%. UAB and CBU were the only games where we won with a sub 30% FTR. Ironic we’re an average FT shooting team (73%), but when we’re being aggressive and getting to the line, we’re winning. Disciplined teams (I.e. MVC teams) can defend without fouling. Lipscomb is the #1 team in CBB in opponents FTA/game. Not ideal.
