MT faces C-USA preseason favorite on the road

excerpt:

...The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs look to continue their winning ways when the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders visit.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders were one of the best offensive teams in the game the past several years but graduation caught up to them and most of the scoring went bye bye. The Blue Raiders outscore the opposition 60-59 and seldom break the 70 point barrier. Having said this MTSU has won three in a row after escaping Southern Mississippi 62-61 on the road Thursday. The Golden Eagles shot the ball well at 53.7% but gave the ball away 18 times to give the 49% shooting visitors four extra shots and a narrow win. Reggie Upshaw Jr. was the Blue Raiders go to scorer with 18 points and seven boards on 7-10 from the floor. Giddy Potts scored ten points while the tandem of Jaqawn Raymond and Jacquez Rozier netted nine points apiece.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs look like they will be one of the top squads in the CUSA with their big offens pouring in 76 points per game with a competitive defense to back them up. The Bulldogs have racked up five consecutive victories but needed every point they could muster in Thursday's 74-71 win over visiting Alabama-Birmingham. The Blazers sank shots at a white hot 58% pace with seven players scoring at least eight points but 20 turnovers eventually did them in. The Bulldogs countered with 44% marksmanship but hit three more bombs and six more free throws with nine more shot attempts keeping the game close. Erik McCree led all scorers with 26 points on 9-15 shooting while Alex Hamilton added 20 points on 6-7. Leading scorer Raheem Appleby had an off night with eleven points on 4-11 from the floor although the issue was the starters scored all but four points.

The Blue Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. MTSU are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 8-22 ATS in their last 30 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Saturday games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 vs. Conference USA. La Tech are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games.....

Talked with Jonathan Ford over at the Tech site the other day after the USM game. He said Tech is expecting a packed house for this game. Roughly 7K should be in attendance.

Key for MT will be limiting their turnovers. Tech absolutely feasts on those.

Not optimistic about this one. I'm glad we beat Southern Miss. Couldn't afford to get swept on this trip. I think Tech wins today going away. Would love to be wrong.

Mike Jarvis, the former FAU coach is the color analyst, seems to be bitter about losing to MT so much when he was coaching. Has had some snarky comments about MT's defense and how CKD coaches his team about defense.

These refs are awful. Ticky tack stuff being called under the basket.

I'm loving the effort. LaTech is a very good squad. Reggie needs to go to the basket more. I agree with Jarvis. He's better than 9.5 points a game. Time for him to turn it up a notch. Let's go blue.

trying to balance it out saying MT should pay CKD more

Hate we lost but our team is improving. Keep improving then we will be tough come tourney time. If they keep playing hard then they will be fun to watch the rest of the season.

Nothing to hang your head on there if you're MT. Tech is a damn good basketball team. Middle strikes me, at this point of the season, as a team that could really make a run come tourney time. They are definitely improving. This new group just has to learn how to win.

Watched the second half on TV. Looked good for the most part. Tech is just better. Played tough and made them earn it.
