Letter from the Director of Athletics

"...we know we have areas where we must improve. We certainly are not perfect and fully expect football and men’s basketball to have much better seasons than we did this past year. Both programs have had excellent off seasons and we look forward to much better results in 2021-22. Additionally, we need to finish our fundraising and funding for our proposed Student-Athlete Performance Center and our outdoor tennis courts. I am optimistic these goals can be reached in the fall and we can begin the serious design phase on both projects....."

After I read this part my thought was just about every team has an excellent off season. It's the season where we choose to suck.
I would like to know where we are with fundraising, what our goal is and the plan in detail on how they will reach the goal. My guess is they have no clue.
I'm over all this crap.
It would have been received better if it was his resignation.

I read about 3-4 random sentences as I scrolled through it. Delete.........

Where is the 30 million? and the money from the centennial campaign? 30 million is more than enough to build thee athletic center operations building.

I'm not sure fans knew they were fundraising for the Performance Center

Going to take more than an email and artist's rendering of the proposed facilities to get a dollar from me.

Complete disconnect between Athletic Dept and fans. The cringe worthy video of Stock trying to hand out t-shirts at the KUC is the perfect snapshot of where we are right now. Another example is the burned bridge between the admin and the most recognizable name in the program's history.

Season ticket sales are nonexistent, but yeah, we can raise funds for a multi-million dollar facility. What a joke.

This made me chuckle.😂😂

Can you imagine how different that video would look at Bama, Clemson or even with Bill Clark at UAB?

Fans are not sure what's going on other than our admin is inept.
I’ve probably been deleted from their database long ago since McCluney got mad at me but has anyone still getting emails from BRAA seen anything composed by the current BRAA Senior Assoc. AD for External Affairs and Athletics Development??????
Anything at all???

Crickets. Guess if you don't have anything good to report then don't communicate at all.

And that's my biggest gripe during this whole mess.

I'm glad they FINALLY announced the plans, but they (to my knowledge) never announced a widespread fundraising effort. It's all (allegedly) taken place behind closed doors involving the Blue Raider mafia (i.e. McPhee, Massaro, AD officials, BOT, and a handful of high level boosters).

Involve the fans. Reach out to your community. BUILD relationships, not just transactions.

I’m not back. I’m here only for a brief cameo after I got the damn email as well.

With all due respect - and remember I’m sayin with all due respect - that email ain’t worth a velvet painting of a dolphin and whale gettin it on.

Sometimes it’s better to just say nothing, but they can’t seem to appreciate the gravity of this situation. I think I will send Chris a note to delist me from their mailing list until he and and his band of fellow incompetents are gone. The fact that the dude running the basketball program has a win total in the teens against D1 opposition after three years and still has a job here is the simultaneous slap in the face and kick in the nuts to the remaining 12 people still fans. No school in the world settle for this. Well, except here. Carry on.

MT01: So I guess it’s a hard “no” that you’ll be “blitzing” next month during the lunch hour? 😂😂

Start reading at the 5th paragraph. The folks who work in college athletic departments must sit around all day polishing their resumes for their next gig. It’s unbelievable what some will take credit for.

Well, I think I figured out where I stand in the alumni donor database. Got a direct mail piece today from the MTSU Development Office with directions for how to include them in my will.

Which begs the question. If I’ve suspended my giving while alive, why would I give them my kids’ and grandkids’ inheritance when I’m dead??? 😂😂

That is hilarious.

Wow that's a lot of word salad for saying success has been limited.
It appears there has been a significant amount of attention on tennis facilities for the last several years. The good taxpayers of Rutherford County contributed greatly to the Adams Indoor Tennis Facility and it is maintained by the City of Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Dept. How much of the $6 million price tag touted by the former BRAA Director was actually funded by alumni donations will probably never be made public. Kinda odd that it wasn’t built on campus either.

Any “sports journalist” with a brain and the desire to actually do some investigative reporting can FOIA the numbers during the years after 2014-15 FYE and connect the dots.
Our Athletics “fundraising” has been artificially inflated from annual funds money for years. It’s really sad and unfortunate because of the large and virtually untapped (or currently disengaged) number of alumni in this area. Couple that with multiple mediocre and losing seasons in FB, MBB then here we are.

Anyone who says otherwise is in complete denial.

I have 5 season football tickets through an open air box. I have 5 season tickets to basketball. I never received this email. I also donate in one of the top three levels. I got the email from one of the guys I tailgate with. The people running athletics are a total Joke. Dallas Baptist just made a super regional in Baseball and has better baseball facilities than MT. It’s time to clean house now. I have had it with these people and the fact that we should just pay Bea cause we won at track, golf, tennis etc. ADCM thinks that participation trophies in the post season count in the major sports. This is garbage!

Sad part about DBU, Benefield who hit the Grand Slam is a Murfreesboro native, that played at Seigel.

We (GoMiddle) did a few years ago. I'm away from the information, but I don't recall seeing any information about the Sports Performance facility.

That said, I wonder if he was referring to the slight remodel to the weight room was completed several years ago

My comment was directed at certain individuals who make claims of record fundraising and projects they take credit for but had zero input or direct responsibility for actually making it happen.

$500 Million Dollars!!

”With an ultimate goal of $500 million, the My All Campaign's public launch is bolstered by close to $200 million already committed. Notably, roughly $70 million in capital commitments targeted for strategic investments in Neyland Stadium and Anderson Training Center were pledged over the previous three years by a contingent of leadership donors (see listing below)”

With all that money Alabama and Florida will still own them in football for years to come.

Love em or hate em, but…..they’ve fired four Head Football coaches since our guy was hired in 2006. One of them a former Vol with a NC.

Why this did not appear first on goblueraiders.com instead of risking missing people with an email first is something we'll never know. Now, nearly a week later, on goblueraiders.com:

Yep. That darned COVID and Tony Franklin kept Blue Raider Football from winning an outright Conference title for the past 15 seasons…..and Blue Raider Men’s Basketball for the last three.

It’s not an unreasonable expectation for fans to demand “progress” not perfection. The two primary revenue sports and the Athletic Dept as a whole have not progressed under this regime. We haven’t just fallen behind WKU. When we start losing football games to Charlotte by 2 TD’s before anyone even heard of COVID-19 then we have not progressed. Especially when they pluck a young up and coming HC right out of our back yard. It’s extremely disappointing.

That said, congrats to the Title IX and Olympic sports CUSA champions. They represented the school well but unfortunately, they don’t pay the bills.

I used the FreeWill software this week. Every time it came to leaving anything to MT I just let out a laugh and hit the "No thanks" button.
