BASKETBALL Bracketologist Joe Lunardi says it's time to show love to mid-major conferences

Think this is an excellent point. Illinois State, Murray State winning 25 in a row and losing to Belmont for the OVC Tournament Title and not making NCAAs, Louisiana Tech in 2014 or 2015 shipped off to the NIT, Utah State in 2004, and the list can go on.

Think Mick Cronin states it well last year about selection and seeding. It’s about television ratings and money rather than the “34 or 36 best teams” in DI Basketball. Basketball is halfway fair, at least we can make the dance if we have three consecutive good days come March. But a body of 26, 27 wins can be snuffed out with a loss or OT loss in our world, while a 19 win BC$, P5 team with a 9-7 mark in conference makes it as a 10 or 11 seed?!? But, in football P5’s are never invited to the party— just ask UCF or anyone finishing 12-0 or 13-0. Best ranking is always around #7-9 after the bowl season and #11-15 beforehand.

It's a rigged system.

Conf tournaments are exciting and all, but it usually means winning a regular season championship and an overall record of say 25-7 means nothing if you are not the one conf team to go 3 for 3 in early March. The system is terribly flawed.

At least this can be said about bball, at least there is a national tournament. In football, 4 teams doesn't exactly count as a playoff. At least that is a step in the right direction compared to the BC$ days.
