outside of Memphis Kermit has to leave the state to find quality basketball talent, Which is probably a huge disadvantage
Not even the other programs just saying Tennessee doesnt put out many high level D1 basketball players anymore. Just look in our own backyard. Murfreesboro has put out 1 D1 boys basketball player in the last 5 yearsUpshaw is from the Chattanooga area. Although they are from north Alabama, Potts and Buford, are just as close to home as Upshaw.
But I agree with a dozen or so D1 programs in the state, you have to go outside the state for recruits and I think with the gosh awful state tag and the four letter acronym, its harder work for Kermit and staff than some other of our piers.
I coached that kid in the 7th grade. I know he was a 4 star recruit but I think he would be better suited coming back home because his coach has turned him in to a 1 dimensional role player who just stands on the wing and shoots 3 pointers. His talents are not being utilized in my opinionBasketball is so different. So much AAU, prep schools and sneaker teams etc. it's hard to even pinpoint a region to go after. We had a kid here in the boro that my wife taught that you could tell was special by 6th grade but by the time he was finished I don't know that we could call him a hometown kid. He was recruited to CPA. Won a title or two there and then was recruited to D1 basketball factory Huntington Prep for his senior year. He is playing for Providence now which IIRC he had a family connection to. Point being that even when there is top talent locally they don't necessarily stay local for long.
blackmanDo you know which high school Lindsey would have been zoned to, had he stayed in The Boro.?
With so many elite players starting to look at PT more than the name on the jersey (part of the reason for Duke and UK's lack of normal success this year) is it possible that concept (wider dispersion of elite talent) will filter down and help %#&-majors get better talent. A kid like Lindsey would be a star at MT and no-doubt, have an equal or better chance of making the NBA as being a role-player at Providence.
finished with 2 points and 1 reb in 19 minutes. Come back home Jalen!!!
