LADY RAIDER BB ESPN releases early season Women's Bracketology for 2024-25

I'd take it a step further and say they need to go 4-1 against UT, KSU, ISU, Princeton and GCU to make a run at a 6 seed, can't afford a bad loss or even one to a mediocre P5 like Purdue.

Worth noting CBU swept Grand Canyon last year and they play Liberty real early. Given how mediocre C-USA is, we need Liberty to have a good season

On paper, Liberty should be pretty good I think and will likely be our biggest challenge in conference. Is Smuda back or was she a senior last year?

FOOTBALL Middle Tennessee (1-3) @ Memphis (ESPNU), 6:30PM, Saturday, September 28, 2024

MT has been passed - perhaps - lapped by Memphis. But that's too be expected. Memphis has a big $$$ booster in Fred Smith (and I'm sure others). More than that, Memphis invested $$$ & continues to invest.

Build Blue Now / SAPC should have been built in 2010. It's the 1st substantial facility investment in FB since the new turf / video board (IIRC). At this point, MT should be able to be talking about building a facility in the other end zone.

But they're playing catchup.

Memphis and others schools that MT was "ahead" of have made substantial investments in other areas (like NIL). Fred Smith (IIRC) gave $25 million over 5 years for NIL alone. MT doesn't have that.

Want to improve the trenches? Convince a billionaire to help with NIL.

The powers that be in Cope didn't invest. Other schools did. That's one of the biggest reasons MT is behind.

And it's why Build Blue Now is necessary NOW. MT is trying to play 15 years of catchup in 5 years.
Mcphee and Smith are 100% to blame. One is not competent to run a business/university and the others ego wants to be the big fish in a small pond.
I believe Chris could be a good AD with help from competent leadership.
We are and will continue to be 10 years behind.

MWC getting blown up

Dumb move by Memphis from an on-field perspective. That P-whatever champ is probably going to get that G5 playoff spot more often than not and it would have been a better BBall league (especially if they manage to add Gonzaga).

But if the exit fee + additional operating costs >>> projected revenue increase, you simply can't make that move. They couldn't have taken a loss.

We’ve gone from getting Memphis coaches fired to being a free win tune up game while they quest for a playoff berth.

Could our two paths have gone any differently ?

FOOTBALL Duke at Middle Tennessee Game Thread

Regardless of record, I just wanted to be able to say, "This team is better than last year". As of now, I can't.
Why would it be better than last year? They had to bring in 59+ players this offseason just to field a team. The team last year was a good team. A very good team for the G5 level. The problem was that the very good team couldn't win any games. Year one was always going to be tough especially in the first half. This team has the chance to get a lot better as conference play hits and then you can build off a core and add to the roster for the first time this offseason

I was also there. Sitting 10 rows behind the Tigers bench and watching Dasher run all over them. The ‘09 game in Murfreesboro was the game that a FedEx exec and Ambassador level booster told RC Johnson to “fire West now, tonight!”

MWC getting blown up

What a day. Several MWC schools have spurned the PAC and recommitted to MWC including UNLV.

Utah State has apparently accepted an invitation.
Remember in the early days of the Sunbelt we hung like 76 pts on them in a game in Mboro? Both their tackles were ejected for giving our fans a double bird during the game! Now we are just 2 ships passing in the night….

MWC getting blown up

Good grief.

We are right where we belong.

At least Tarleton is committing massive investments towards D1/FBS. They will have passed us by in 10 years if not sooner. You should see what they are building.

The lack of commitment, both from the University and the community, will continue to be the downfall of MTSU athletics. There's just not enough support there, across the board.

I wish I had the answers. But when the support isn't there it's just not there. Murfreesboro/Rutherford County and the middle Tennessee area as a whole takes the University for granted. And McPhee/Steve Smith have no idea what they are doing.

MWC getting blown up

Supposedly the MWC is using the money from the exit fees/penalties of the first four to sweeten the pot for the others to stay (and others to join). Also the PAC would barely pay 10% of the AAC teams exit fees with no media deal yet.

I still get the feeling some of this is like the PAC mess a few years ago. "We are committed to stay." Until the money is bigger that is. If the PAC gets a what if offer with teams X and Y, things could change.

I've seen the MWC is now shopping for a new deal themselves now. This isn't over yet.
