DNJ excerpt:

Heard not enrolled

One of the six players MTSU signed in January for the spring semester isn't enrolled at the school.

Dontavious Heard, a cornerback from Phoenix City College in Phoenix, Arizona, didn't qualify academically for the spring semester and is not listed in MTSU's student directory.

Heard could still enroll for the summer semester or for the 2015 fall semester but he won't be counted as a member of the 2015 signing class when the Blue Raiders' new signees are announced.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Georgia native is rated as a 3-star prospect according to Rivals and a 2-star prospect by 247Sports.

Who could MTSU lose?

The Blue Raiders have 17 unsigned, committed players. Most are very firm in their stance to sign with MTSU, but there's always a chance some could defect to others schools. Who is most likely to do so?

•Peter Bailey, DE: The Florida native was originally a Florida Atlantic commitment before pledging his allegiances to the Blue Raiders. But the JuCo prospect from Hinds Community College in Mississippi picked up a late offer from Nebraska last week.

Bailey told The Daily News Journal on Jan. 22 that he was "a Blue Raider for life." Attempts to reach him in recent days were unsuccessful.

•Jovante Moffatt, CB: The Union City, Tennessee native and two-way player just committed to MTSU last week over rival Western Kentucky. But the Hilltoppers were making a very strong push on Tuesday for 6-foot 180-pounder, which included several tweets by current WKU players trying to convince the high school senior to change his mind.

•Tyshun Render, TE/DE: He's unlikely to jump ship, but Georgia State did make a late push to steal the Blue Raiders' commitment, who is an Atlanta native - where Georgia State is located.

Who could MTSU steal?

And just like the Blue Raiders will want to protect Bailey, Render and Roth there are a couple of guys who could put the icing on MTSU's class.

•Sihiem King, RB: The Georgia native is probably the highest-rated, uncommitted prospect on the Blue Raiders' board. The 3-star prospect is being recruited heavily by Wake Forest, Georgia Southern, MTSU and he has offers from Washington State and West Virginia.

He visited Murfreesboro on Jan. 21 and loved his visit, but it would still have to be considered a great get if the Blue Raiders are able to pry him away for the ranks of the power-five conferences.

Three-star RB visiting MTSU

•Cameron Watkins, DB: The Pearl-Cohn High School cornerback was at one time - in mid-January - leaning pretty heavily to MTSU. But offers from Illinois and Vanderbilt came in late for 2-star prospect.

If MTSU is able to land the uncommitted Nashville native, it would be a great addition. At 6-1 and 190 pounds, he has the size to contribute immediately, but the likely of that happening seems slims.
