Satellite camps

It easy to get the impression that WKU has recruited the mid-state better than MT in recent years. No doubt they do very well from Nashville north.

This camp brings up one question. Just what does our athletic dept. do outside of Rutherford Co. other than the occasional trip to the Tire Barn in Nashville? Most years the pre-season caravan doesn't leave the county. The only outreach I can remember outside the county was the softball game with the Urenge in Columbia a few years ago. Do members of the athletic dept. even speak to civic groups or high school athletic banquets in the mid-state? Where is the outreach?

You want the camps on your campus to show off the campus and facilities. I was at the first camp on May 31st and it was 300 strong. They had 2 more camps the following sundays not counting the specialty camps. I wouldn't be to worried about them posting up in Gallatin. They need to come into TN because there aren't enough football players in KY.

I don't disagree with anything you posted mtblue. You do want to get prospects on campus and yes, KY is not blessed with FB prospects. Regardless, you would have to admit that a camp in or around Chattanooga, or Huntsville, or Jackson would expose MT and the coaching staff to just a few prospects who wouldn't come to The Boro.

But my issue is not with football camps per se. It is with MT's athletic department's total lack of, to my knowledge, promotion outside of Rutherford Co. If UT-K has a caravan which covers the state (and beyond) and if the mid-state's NFL team feels a need to caravan the area one would conclude that MT should give at least a token effort to promote to the mid-state. Just MHO.

It's just a different business / recruiting model. WKU takes their show on the road Nashville, Louisville, and Paducah to gain access to the best prospects in their immediate geographic footprint. MT, on the other hand, wants the prospects to visit campus. Nothing wrong about either model...

UT Martin was at Middle's camp also, along with UTC and about 6 other schools.
