Somewhere MT picked up an additional 25 votes. Went from 39 to 64 AP votes in 1 week. As mentioned above, ladies are picking up some much deserved respect. Hopefully this week's Bracketology will reflect that. Not too many top 25 ranked 9 seeds out there.

On one wbb message board a P5 program fan was saying their team should be ranked because of who they were playing in their next couple of game, not their body of work so far. Hinting at SoS? I know P5s get more leeway and if MT loses one time they'll be completely out of the top 25. Because we only have cusa programs in front of us we really don't have any games that if we win that vault us back into top 25 if we were to stumble and fall out,

Lol so ridiculous. Winning is what matters, not who you’ve got on the schedule coming up.

Huge respect to the Lady Vol program, but such reaction over us being ranked ahead of them just shows how far they have slipped. There was a day when UT dominated the women's game. If they lost, it wasn't often. Those days have gone, yet obviously some fans and writers can't come to grips that they are no longer the premier state program. Instead of head and shoulders above, they now are looking us in the eye.

Honestly, UT is playing great now. It will be interesting to see how they fare the next week with Uconn and LSU looming. A split would be a hell of a feat. Fact is though, they have six losses. Amusing that the article references these saying all but one rank higher than our best win. So with that logic, if we play a 24 game schedule to all ranked teams and lose them all, we deserve to be ranked too? Idiotic.

Maybe someone else on here knows but I thought we were supposed to play UT this year. I was also told that UK backed out of their game with us. CRI has stated multiple times we will play anyone. But these teams also need to be willing to come here in return. If they won't do that, then they are afraid of the fight.

As UT fans are displaying right now, sometimes it's easier to believe you are superior than to prove it. "We lost this game, oh and this one. That one too, and that one slipped away. We were close in that one and the refs beat us in that one. Still though, we are in the SEC and deserve a 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and need to host some games."

Come Final 4 time, the Vols may be there. But go earn it with victories. The Lady Raiders are doing all they can within their power to do the same. Don't fault them for it and feel entitled to it.

Bless their hearts. Getting so upset over 1 specific team in the top 25. Could someone explain to them there are 24 other available spots they could have. All they have to do is take one of the other 24, but just not ours. Math challenged losers.

To Vandy’s credit at least they were willing to play us. Now after 6 straight beat downs combined between their women’s and men’s program they have said NO More. To their former players credit they showed up for the 50th anniversary game Even after their team turned down the invitation. The Big Orange refuses to play a home and home in womens basketball. Maybe they will get a chance to play us in the tournament……

The perfect dream Bracketology.
After winning round 1 in the Murphy Center.

Round 2 - Murphy Center
#4 Middle Tennessee
#5 Tennessee
Attendance 11,500

question about us hosting(even though i don't think we get a top 4 line even if we win out), what has to happen from a university standpoint leading up? point in case our tennis team was a top 16 seed last year but didn't get to host because, if i remember correctly, the administration didn't apply in time/at all for hosting privileges. Surely a hosting proposal to the ncaa has to happen long before the bracket is decided.

I saw a Vols fan on Twitter raising cane asking who have we played and what our Net ranking is. I debated replying myself but kept my mouth shut. But to answer

* Net UT is 18, we are 20 of course.
* UT has yet to beat a ranked team. Their next two are UCONN and LSU which will significantly show how good they really are. Still have USC of course. They did beat Colorado who is now ranked. We beat UL of course who currently is no longer ranked.
* UT SOS is 3 (2 non-conf) MT 82 (70 non-conf)
* Wins wise NET
UT Q1 3-6 Q2 6-0 Q3 3-0 Q4 4-0
MT Q1 1-0 Q2 2-1 Q3 10-1 Q4 3-0
* Losses NET
UT - OSU 10 IU 5 UCLA 27
GONZ 37 VT 21 STAN 4
MT - MERC 186 TT 70

Their schedule is tougher no doubt, but what good is that when you lose all those games that matter.

Their fans shouldn't worry too much. Looking at the 2 well known Bracketology reports, outside of the #1 or #2 bracket spots seeding has nothing to do with AP ranking or Net Ranking. Despite their 6 losses Tennessee is either a #7 seed according to ESPN, or a #5 seed by College Sports Madness. Those same prognosticators have #23 ranked MT as either a #8 seed or a #11 seed. Way down the pecking order.
Our rankings in the polls have no meaning according to those sites. It's all about how big your name & your conference is.
All we can do is keep winning & hope for the best. Teams like Tennessee really don't have much to squawk about. They can end up the year 23-10 & still get a 5 seed.
Unfortunately big time sports schools equals big time political favoritism.

Which is exactly why I'm against the tournaments expanding.

But that is a discussion for another day. We just do our part and keep winning. Worry about us and us only.

I'm rooting against them. I despise ut-k, the institution and all their endeavors, for a whole host of reasons, almost as much as I do vanderbilt. I will be keeping an eye on the score app Thursday night while I'm at the Lady Raiders game. Hoping the Lady Raiders win big and ut-k gets their sorry asses kicked.

They almost certainly will. They should have lost to Mizzou if not for some missed calls at the end (UT player carried the ball EXTREMELY obviously, no call, then they hit a shot to win)

Most relevant comment from coach about maintaining & growing team success was about his son Matt.
Everything about the growth of MT women's basketball as a top 25 contender year in & year out is totally contingent upon 1 thing going forward, the keeping of Matt Insell here. Rick has had decent players & teams here the last 15 years, & have been capable of competing for conference championships. That's about it though. No disrespect to Rick & his recruiting ability, but it's Matt's joining of the coaching staff here & his recruiting direction that has elevated MT's women's basketball program to next level status.
Very true of Rick to mention it will be hard to keep him. If Rick decides to step down shortly & give reigns to Matt then the sky's the limit here for years to come. If not look for Matt to move on shortly, & probably take an assistant ot two with him. Fingers crossed for the former alternative being the result.

I fully believe it is Matt's if he wants it. Rick has had a BRHOF career no doubt. That's how it should be anyway.

I worry about it not happening though over perceived nepotism. This is wayyyyyy different than Brent on Stock's staff. But some moron journalist who doesn't know better will raise holy heck over it being head coach and not assistant.

Matt never was an official assistant here, worked his way up at LaT and UK to SEC head coach, then came here. Headline should read "MT hires seasoned former SEC coach to lead Lady Raiders"

It will probably read "Hand picked. Retiring MT Lady Raiders head coach replaced by his own son"

I fully believe as said Matt is one whale of a recruiter and we cannot let him go, appearances or not. He's earned it. And I think he's learned from his Ole Miss tenure and will be even better next go round, hopefully with us.

I don't think that will be a concern. First of all, he's almost running the team now as associate HC (he's often taking the leading role in timeouts), and he's been the head coach of an SEC team. Not sure how anyone who does their research - or matters - will be able to say he doesn't deserve the position, if he wants to go for it when Rick retires.

I'm curious how far we'll move up; there's been some loses in the top 25 so we should see some action.

#25 Colorado - Beat #8 UCLA, lost to USC
#24 Fl State - Lost to #7 Notre Dame, beat #15 Duke
#23 MT - Won both their games
#22 Illinois - Lost to Purdue, playing Mich St today
#21 Villanova - Beat Xavier, beat Creighton, lost to #5 UCONN
#20 NCST - Beat #7 Notre Dame
#19 Arizona - Beat Wash, lost to Wash St
#18 Iowa St - Beat TCU, beat #14 Oklahoma
#17 Gonzaga - Beat Loyola Marymount, beat Peperdine
#16 Duke - Beat #12 Va Tech,
lost to #24 Fl State
#15 UNC - Beat Pitt, beat Clemson
#14 Oklahoma -
Lost to Texas, lost to #18 Iowa St
#13 Michigan - Lost to #10 Maryland, beat Minnesota
#12 Va Tech -
Lost to #16 Duke, playing UVA today
#11 Maryland - Beat #13 Michigan
#10 Iowa - Beat #2 OSU, beat Nebraska

Loses above us is about the only thing that will move us up as we don't have any quality opponents left. As of right now everyone left is Q3 or Q4. Possibility of LaT becoming Q2 as that game is in Ruston.

Yeah, I listed the teams behind us in the rankings since they could possibly leapfrog us depending on the quality of their wins. I think Colorado would have been ranked ahead of us after beating #8 UCLA if they won their other game.

Oklahoma may get pushed out due to back to back losses, this would allow room for Texas to fight their way back after destroying the Sooners last week. The rest of top 25 did enough good work to retain their status, Hopefully
