LADY RAIDER BB Non-Conference Schedule Released

Love the schedule, it's a great mix of some good teams from both power and non-power conferences!

Great schedule this year. Some tough games and some games for learning experiences. Cal Baptist is a very good program in the WAC -- a tough test for us going out there this year. Excited for the game at Princeton, I'll be there...

When the schedule was first released I had an initial reaction but decided to let it go and come back to it later. Which I have now done and am just as disappointed as I was initially.
Yes, the away/neutral site games are good and reflect where we are as a program. It’s not difficult to set those up.
The home schedule is embarrassing. We are coming off a round of 32 appearance and the marquee home match is against Grand Canyon! Seriously, that’s the best we can do?
In fact, there are only 3 home games in November and one in December. And it’s the local school game.
We had season tickets from ‘09-‘21 so went back and randomly looked at our home schedule to compare.

2013-14, UTenn, UKY, & South Dakota St

2015-16, UVirginia, Ole Miss, Kentucky, & Missouri State.

2017-18, Troy, Kentucky

2019-20, Kentucky, VCU, & TCU.

2021-22, E Carolina, Vandy, SIU

2023-24, Memphis & Princeton.

Just a real head scratcher and disappointing for those who buy season tickets. Not buying that Grand Canyon is the best we can do.

I wouldn't even count Grand Canyon as they are part of the conference scheduling agreement with the WAC. As is us playing at Cal Baptist.

Sadly that is the reality nowadays as a mid-major, even successful ones. Name brand power teams will be at Murphy less and less. All the more reason to shoot for a top16 spot to host.

In the latest episode, I interviewed CRI and he made it a point that his program is good enough that these big schools need to sign on a deal to come back to Murfreesboro. Hence, why Tennessee is coming to M'boro next year. Why we had Louisville last year. He wants big games to fill his non-conference schedule and stay ahead of the NET rankings because, let's be honest, CUSA hurts our rankings even if we win by 20+. So he has to play big schools, but most are scared to return the favor and come back to M'boro.

The Grand Canyon game shouldn't be slept on, they're a Top 100 NET team and beat us out west last year. To your point, that game is solely scheduled as a return on the WAC/CUSA Challenge which also explains the random Cal Baptist game on schedule. Both teams will be favorites to go to NCAAT out of the WAC.

From a Power school perspective our landscape has changed in the last 3-4 years. All of our recent victories over major programs have scared a lot of those schools away. No P5 or P6 school wants to come here until we can remove the G5 moniker attached with being in CUSA. I believe we can get those schools to come back to visit Murfreesboro, but we need to take that next step in respectability. When MT breaks into the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 status the basketball world will see us in a different light.
When we become the "Gonzaga of women's basketball" which I think we're pretty close to those same Power schools will be more open to a home & home.
If the LSU game had been called fairly they would have been totally on the ropes at home. Coaches from across the country who watched the game know it's the truth. The fouls were something like 38-9, totally absurd.
That game along with our comeback against Louisville was enough to frighten opposing coaches from Murfreesboro this year. However with another great year along with a victory or 2 in the NCAA Tournament I believe it will give us more viability & credibility that a road loss at MT will not necessarily kill a power schools overall ranking.
Unless they get beat by 18-20 points like Louisville did here recently. Hahaha

IMO, I think we get too caught up in playing P4 teams when we should focus on Mid-Majors like us. Give me a schedule with 7-8 successful Mid-Majors rather than a few P4's.

No matter how good we get, there is always going to be a perception problem with teams playing at Middle until we play in a conference that can consistently get more than 1 bid
