Line is holding steady at +7

I really like the Blue Raiders in this spot. App St. has been a covering machine this year so Vegas knows the $$$ will be there for the Mountaineers. Underdogs traditionally do very well in bowl games, and I really believe this MT team wants to get the nasty taste out of it's mouth from the UAB game. Not sure we will win but I think we keep it competitive and getting 7 points is a plus.

Look for this line to fall down to 6 and maybe even 5.5 or 5 as the game draws near.

Where are the articles about the freebies they give to players at the bowl? I'm wondering what sort of goodies the players take home from this bowl.

I'd say the snowpocalypse that fell on Boone might affect their preparation, but that have a very nice indoor practice facility....must be nice.

excerpt:

...The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Appalachian State Mountaineers will meet in college football’s New Orleans Bowl on December 15.

Appalachian State enters this one at 10-2 overall. The Mountaineers recorded losses to Penn State and GA Southern but otherwise took out Savannah State, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, South Alabama, Arkansas State, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, Texas State, Georgia State, Troy and Louisiana again in the Sun Belt Title Game.

In the second Cajuns game, App State’s Zac Thomas threw for 75 yards and rushed for 59 with a pair of TDs. Darrynton Evans led the Mountaineers rush with 111 yards and Marcus Williams had a 34-yard catch.

Over on the Middle Tennessee side, they’re 8-5 this year. The Raiders have taken out TN-Martin, FL Atlantic, Marshall, Charlotte, ODU, WKU, UTEP and UAB while falling to Vanderbilt, Georgia, FIU, Kentucky and UAB in the conference championship.

In the UAB game December 1, MTSU’s Brent Stockstill logged 362 yards with two touchdowns and two picks, while Zack Dobson put up 52 yards on the ground. Terelle West was the lead Blue Raiders receiver on 81 yards and three catches.

The Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven versus the Sun Belt. MTSU is 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five bowl games.

Meanwhile, the Mountaineers are 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 overall. App State is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 on turf and 7-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record.

App State is more versatile than you may think; sure, they prefer to run at every opportunity but can also throw if they’re so motivated. Defensively they’ve been great as well, routinely holding opponents to single-digit totals this year.

MTSU has a tendency to stall out on offense here and there, so a little ball control and some defensive prowess from the Mountaineers could go a long way.....

Appalachian State vs. Middle Tennessee Betting Preview (New Orleans Bowl)

excerpts:

  • The Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall
  • The Raiders are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven versus the Sun Belt
  • The Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss
  • The Raiders are 1-4 ATS in their last five bowl games.
  • The Mountaineers are 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games
  • The Mountaineers are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 overall.
  • The Mountaineers are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 on turf
  • The Mountaineers are 7-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record

Prediction:
App State ranks 15th in rushing yards per game with 241.0. But only 100th in passing offense (188.6 yards per game). Meanwhile, MTSU ranks 104th in rushing offense (138.1) and 40th in passing offense (255.4). So App has an arguably slightly better offense. But they also have a much better defense. App State held opponents to 10 points or fewer on seven games this season. Moreover, they rank No. 3 in the country in passing yards allowed per game (148.1). As a matter of fact, the ‘Neers allowed just seven passing TDs this year. On the strength of their defense, take App to cover...

Fan Duel:

Betting Lines, Spread, Odds and Prop Bets for the New Orleans Bowl

excerpt:

- Away Team (MTSU) Total: Under 21.5 Points (-110) – MTSU's offense isn't anything to write home about, and it doesn't help that the Mountaineers boast the No. 5 scoring defense in the country. App State allows just 16.5 PPG and the Blue Raiders are scoring just 26.5 PPG on the season.

- Home Team (App State) Total: Over 28.5 Points (-110) – Appalachian State's defense has made it easier for the Mountaineers offense to score lower in their wins, but they still know how to punch it into the end zone. The Mountaineers are averaging 33.5 PPG on the year, and while App State has scored 28.5 or fewer in four games (21.25 PPG), they've also scored 45 points or more in four other performances (53.5 PPG).

Should be pulling into the hotel by 3 on Saturday. Quick stop at Harrahs and then on to the True Blue Tailgate. Game will end around midnight I'm sure. Late night on Bourbon St followed by a long drive to Murfreesboro on Sunday. Not how I drew it up, but I'll be there by God! I'll be there...

Wish we could get another podcast. I loved listening to it and even being a small part of it in 2012.
