Who knows. WKU also lost to Memphis by 12 and Memphis lost to Murray State by 2. Never know what will happen.WKU throttled Ole Miss, what do you think they will do to us?
And we struggle with big guys.Western's 7'-5" center was a big factor in that game. Ole Miss got zero in the paint with him there.
I don't see how we start Dish against him, but I am not sure Fussell or Turner can do much against him either. And we struggle with big guys.
You don't fight fire with fire- Sharp doesn't have the foot speed to guard Dish 15-18' from the basket either; stretch him out and make him guard on the perimeter- force him to pick up the lateral moving fouls which no one has done to him this year.. make him run 92' etc.. lots of ways to combat height in today's game and altshauf addressed zone strategies- that's one advantage of playing position-less basketball (which MT mostly does).. on defense you need Dish to not let Sharp establish low post positions- push him out of the paint and use that bigger body/lower center of gravity to put Sharp in less efficient scoring/rebounding position..I don't see how we start Dish against him, but I am not sure Fussell or Turner can do much against him either.
Wiley,
May be good for us considering the schedule up to now. Someone with a high talent level that is motivated. If we can hold it to a tight one… may say a lot about MT this year.
Kermit's teams were usually up and down in Nov/Dec. His teams usually started to come together in Jan.I'm not convinced Ole Miss is as talented as people think they are. Sure they have a lot of highly rated prospects but they just flat out don't look good when I've watched them play. Very anemic on offense.
He's the only BIG that knows all the plays/sets is my guess.. it's most important to know where to be on the court at all times vs some other attributes..I hate to be the one to say it, but Dish just isn't the same player anymore. It's like he is playing with one arm and one leg. It's not his fault with the injuries and all. In my opinion, he should be coming off the bench for limited play. Some of the other younger guys just have to grow up including hitting the chow hall and weight room frequently.
Yea I know this can work, but we have to make him run and get him into foul trouble. We are not the best shooting team, so we need to be able to score in the paint. You don't fight fire with fire- Sharp doesn't have the foot speed to guard Dish 15-18' from the basket either; stretch him out and make him guard on the perimeter- force him to pick up the lateral moving fouls which no one has done to him this year.. make him run 92' etc.. lots of ways to combat height in today's game and altshauf addressed zone strategies- that's one advantage of playing position-less basketball (which MT mostly does).. on defense you need Dish to not let Sharp establish low post positions- push him out of the paint and use that bigger body/lower center of gravity to put Sharp in less efficient scoring/rebounding position..
I've only watched two games, both of those recently. So, I may not be fully informed. I was seeing a pattern develop of when he was involved in a offensive possession, the possession would usually end poorly. From poor low percentage shooting on his part, to lots of turnovers, his involvement seemed to indicate a poor outcome for that possession. Regarding turnovers, not just losing the ball where he was credited with a turnover, but passes to him that he failed to bring in that were credited to others. Another key example to which I'm referring was at Murray St where Dish broke up a pass from one of the guards to another player that resulted in a turnover. Dish wasn't involved statistically in that play despite he being the main reason the possession was lost and one of the other players credited with a turnover. He's the only BIG that knows all the plays/sets is my guess.. it's most important to know where to be on the court at all times vs some other attributes..
I get it, I'm not trying to overly defend Dishman as his injuries have most certainly impacted his previous skill-set, conditioning, and recovery time between games- he has had several games where the TO's (especially when the defense collapses) have been far too high for any player.. personally think many of those TO's could be avoided if he were more assertive and did more turn & face attacking on entry passes to post or post extended areas of the court.. that's the anecdotal evidence..I've only watched two games, both of those recently. I really don't have anything against the guy. I appreciate that he has fought through a lot of adversity and injuries to try to play. I hope my observations are just a bad sample or data set, but he just doesn't look to still have what he once offered. He still strikes me as a veteran leader kind of guy, but maybe just with a little less PT.
