FB RECRUITING MT lands 2nd commit of '18 class

Of course Chance announced his commitment, but I wanted to get clarification on a couple of things before we ran with this.

I can confirm that Chance is an official '18 commit.

Tony Franklin personally recruited him, extending an offer to Chance on April 22nd.

MT was his first and only offer to this point, but there's no denying the kid can play. He's been a starter at Paloma Valley since his sophomore season, and has been lauded for being one of the more cerebral and accurate QB's in the state of CA.

We all know TF loves his Cali QB's - so it looks like he's locked one down before anyone else could.

This dude really looks good. So, please help me out here with the recruiting thoughts on this by the staff. You still have Stockstill for two more seasons (barring his transfer). You recruit two QBs, one a JUCO. Are you anticipating defections? What would be the thinking here?

Both QB's committed are from the high school ranks.

When you think about it, there's always attrition at the QB spot, so I think this is preparatory if anything else.

These two guys will assuredly redshirt their first year, so when they become eligible you'll have Stock as a RS senior, Urzua a RS junior, Banks a RS sophomore and Turner a RS freshman.

So...five QB's will be on scholarship vying for one spot after Stock leaves. If you ask me, it looks like a play to throw as many logs in the fire of competition as they can. Perhaps the staff isn't sold on Urzua or Banks based on what they saw this spring and they want to spark some competition to make everyone better. Or...they're preparing for a departure down the line.

Two QBs may be a desire to increase competition, but I'm inclined to believe its TF's desire for having several talented QB on roster.

TF and other Air Raid teams have a unique way of dividing reps. Most schools only have one QB throwing during 7 on 7, routes on air, and one on one; TF and Air Raid teams have 5 QB throwing during these periods in practice

At first I was kind of upset about us taking another QB commit but then I proceeded to watch his film and was quite pleased. Can't believe this guy is not rated. This is definitely the Tony Franklin effect. Here we go boys....

Looks like a good find. Really like the fact that he's already running the core components of TF's offense in high school. He seems to do a very good job identifying early on the play where the defenses weaknesses are. Wish he had a little more meat on his bones but there's plenty of time for that. TF's last QB he signed out of California for MT wasn't bad either.
