FOOTBALL Mizzou backs out

What I’d like to know is which side initiated the discussion of cancelling and the amount they are paying us to rescind the contract. I guess every penny counts. 😂

Watch them add an away game in it's place.....Go play @ Oklahoma + the Mizzou $$$$....could be close to a $2-3 million swing.

That's exactly what they will do. From what I found Baylor and Duke are the only ones still with a slot in 2022. But as we've seen before, multiple schools could swap around.

Assuming we have 8 conference games, we currently have 4 home games and 6 away games. If fbs.schedules.com is correct, we have non-conference road games at Colorado St on Sept 10 and duh U on Sept 24.

there's also the 'possibility' rumored by fans of the Sun Belt departees (Marshall, usm, and odu) that they begin their sbc participation THIS Fall creating havoc in cusa football schedules....

Assume a home FCS opponent and whoever ESPN or Missouri worked out for their replacement game.

And for the record, the fact La Tech agreed to play at Missouri suggests that we worked out a deal like the UCONN Ole Miss thing. Because of this was a straight up drop and pick up by Missouri with La Tech, one of our few remaining conference mates screwed us. My guess is ESPN / Missouri is playing our buy out, paying for La Tech to play in Columbia, and is paying the fees for our yet to be determined game.

can you provide context. I’m not picking up what your laying down.

Do you remember when we were going to go to Ole Miss, then they payed us 1.5 million to not play, they picked up UCONN and then we ended up playing at UConn? That’s the only kind of deal here that makes sense. And what I was trying to reference.

My guess is this is similar. They paid us to not play & paid La Tech to go to Columbia. Plus they probably use SEC money to set up whatever our fill in game is. We end up getting paid twice for one road game.

If that’s not the case & they just bought us out plus La Tech jumped in, then we were essentially screwed over by La Tech’s willingness to do it.

I suppose and hope it’s the former rather than later option.

My $ is on Duke. We already have a home & home with them in '24 and '25.

What will throw a wrench in everything is the teams leaving the conference. That could potentially take Marshall, Charlotte, FAU, ODU, and possibly whoever we are due for in the West which 2020 threw off.

I'll be the Mizzou advocate here. 1. Last time Brent torched them at homecoming. 2. #4 SEC recruiting class does not need an oops early in the season. 3. Payout is a drop in the bucket to Mizzou.

Now with my MT hat.... wait that ship sailed. I hope we got payed a ton. Should name a locker room after Mizzou or something.

So, now MT is going to James Madison. A 1-AA team, in transition to the SBC, is paying MT. Is it not even a home and home?

They gonna beat the snot out of us.

I get that JMU is good, but it just doesn't sound right in my head. Could be just me...

They will be an FBS team next season. There will be 4 sbc teams visiting them next year. They needed 5 home FBS games to get the waiver from the NCAA. Seems like we did them a solid in exchange for 700k. I’m okay with it.

You’re new so you get a pass. After the next 16 years with Brent you’ll come over to the dark side with us slappies. 😂😂

Assuming I’m still alive.

Didn't they just announce in October/November? That was fast.

I read where they three looking to leave C-USA early, any news on that front?

I think that we really didn't have any options for an FBS opponent to come here after Mizzou left also. Would you rather play a second FCS school at home or JMU on the road with the $700k payout? Just curious what people would have rather seen if there truly were no options for an FBS home game. I can see how playing a local FCS school like Peay, Tech, or Chatt would be a popular choice, but are we sure any of them were even available? The problem is only 1 of the 2 FCS games would count as a win for bowl eligibility. Granted I wish we were to the point where that wouldn't matter and we could get to 6 FBS wins in our sleep, but we all know that is not the case.
