I bet it's a tight game.

Well, Blue Raiders lost by ten in 2014 down there. The last four times down there MT lost by ten (TWICE), won by one and won by four. It always seems to be a struggle down there. I heard a comment on the radio after the game, that the lockerroom down there is small and there's no air conditioning. Given that fiu lost their homecoming game in a big way, that game is likely to be played in front of friends and families. A big change in environment from a $ec stadium.

This could be our trap game! We must make more defensive stops than we have in the last two weeks. We are prone to struggling and will lose by a score if we have consistent defensive breakdowns on assignments. On paper, we should win by a healthy margin (13-20 points), if we take care of the ball, make big plays with Mathers and James, and finish drives with touchdowns not FG's.

The key will be to stop there run and make them one dimensional, similar to the NT game.

The good news is we will match up physically and it will come down to us playing within ourselves and not turning the ball over.

excerpt:

...Most any college football coach in America would love to have his son play for him. Especially if they happen to play quarterback as well as Middle Tennessee State's Brent Stockstill.

The son of coach Rick has blistered defenses for 2,371 yards and 22 touchdowns at a 64 percent completion rate this season and engineered a 51-45 upset of SEC member Missouri last weekend. The Blue Raiders have the nation's eighth-best passing attack (354.4 ypg) and rip off 40.5 ppg (13th). I'Tavius Mathers can hurt defenses in multiple ways. He's the leading rusher (940 yards, 11 TDs) and second-leading receiver (35 receptions, 350 yards, 3 TDs). Richie James is a lethal receiving threat also with 62 catches for 905 yards and six TDs.

MTSU allows 29.1 ppg (77th).

Florida International is the latest CUSA team faced with the task of slowing down the Blue Raiders. FIU fell to Louisiana Tech 44-24 last week, snapping a three-game winning streak. It's porous defense (33.9 ppg) will be tested.

Alex McGough has completed 57 percent for 1,584 yards but has 10 interceptions along with 10 touchdown passes. Those turnovers have eliminated scoring chances and FIU averages 21.6 ppg (116th). Alex Gardner averages 4.9 yards per carry for 638 yards and four TDs. Thomas Owens is the top receiver with 35 catches for 501 yards and five TDs while Jonnu Smith has caught 33 passes for 366 yards and two TDs. FIU is 75th in passing offense.

Recent Betting Trends:

Blue Raiders are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games.

Golden Panthers are 7-19 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.

Over is 4-0 in Blue Raiders last 4 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.

Over is 10-2 in Golden Panthers last 12 games following a ATS loss.

.....

Biggest game of the year coming up. This is out trap game. I want a business trip performance. Play smart, limit mistakes and we will win this game. Our D has to be excited playing another team of similar talent. I am looking for them to create at least 3 turnovers on Sat.

The FIU offense is averaging 21.6 points per game with 139.5 rushing yards and 226.4 passing yards per game. Alex McGough is completing 56.9% of his passes for 1584 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions for FIU. Thomas Owens has caught 35 passes for 501 yards and 5 touchdowns, while Jonnu Smith has caught 33 passes for 366 yards and 2 touchdowns for Florida International. The Florida International defense is giving up 33.9 points per game with 203.2 rushing yards and 213 passing yards per game. Anthony Wint has led the FIU defense with 81 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and .5 sacks, while Treyvon Williams has added 81 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks. Austin Taylor has gone 11-13 on field goals, with a long of 50 yards.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are 5-2 (2-1) this season after beating Missouri by a score of 51-45 in their last game. Middle Tennessee was able to win this shootout by gaining 584 total yards and forcing 2 turnovers. The Middle Tennessee offense is averaging 40.3 points per game with 194.4 rushing yards and 354.4 passing yards per game. Brent Stockstill is completing 63.7% of his passes for 2371 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions for Middle Tennessee. Middle Tennessee is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The under is 6-2 in Middle Tennessee’s last 8 conference games. FIU is 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 home games. The over is 4-1 in FIU’s last 5 games overall. The over is 6-2-1 in these two teams last 9 meetings.

Middle Tennessee comes into this game with a high-powered offense, while FIU is averaging just over 21 points per game on offense. Middle Tennessee has the clear advantage on offense and is the slightly better defensive team.....

FIU has a lot of reasons to play to win on Saturday...I keep forgetting they are 3-1 in CUSA play.

I hope our guys are focused and treating them very serious. If not for an interception and a kick off returned for a TD, they were in the game with LT.

FIU +17 and FAU +21.5 look awfully temping this week. FAU always gives WKU fits and we all know this FIU game should be tight. Only way I see the Blue Raiders covering is a late break run from Mathers for a garbage TD.

Got to keep some positive momentum, I think we roll.

I don't think FIU can keep up. At this point, I'm believe the overall strategy is just to score every single time, because we have to know the D isn't stopping anyone more than once or twice. And our offense is good enough that we might be able to do that.

I'm actually more interested in WKU-FAU we need someone to bump them off. It would be so Middle to have a once in a decade player like Mathers come through here and have virtually nothing to show for it.

FAU ain't great, but those F_U teams have a tendency to show up out of the blue one day and just out-athlete somebody despite not being very threatening the rest of the year. Hopefully, it happens to them, and not us.
