Big game on Thursday night. I think we are gonna split the games this week.

If we can run them off the three point and if Walters can stay out of foul trouble we can win.

Considering this will likely be the toughest road trip of the conference season, splitting on this trip would not be so horrible. Both Marshall and WKU are capable of beating MT. MT is more than capable of beating both Marshall and WKU even though MT is on the road. Another sign of the growth and development of MT is that fans and the team will be expecting MT to win both road games. MT has to be on top of things. Outstanding defense and monstrous fighting for rebounds will be the type of effort the team has to bring to both road games. Plus, no standing around looking what to do on offense before settling for a poor shot late in the shot clock will be acceptable. MT must attack attack attack! They play with that effort and fire, and I really like MT's chances of coming home with both wins.

If Walters plays like he has the past two games, we will win both of these this week.

excerpt:

...Coming up from Cam Henderson Center on Thursday, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders and the Marshall Thundering Herd will match up in college basketball action.

Middle Tennessee comes into this one with a 13-4 record overall. The Blue Raiders have won their last five games, most recently beating Southern Miss on Saturday. In that one, Middle Tennessee forward Brandon Walters put up 19 points.

Leading the way for the Blue Raiders in scoring this season is Nick King on 21.8 PPG and 7.8 RPG. Giddy Potts is second with 13.1 PPG and Walters is also in double-figures for the Blue Raiders on 11.3 PPG.

As for Marshall, they’re sitting at 12-6 this season. The Herd have lost two of their last three games, falling to Old Dominion most recently. In that one, Marshall guard CJ Burks put up 24 points.

Jon Elmore is the leading Marshall scorer this season on 22.7 PPG and 7.3 APG, while Burks has 21.0 PPG. Also in the double-digits club for the Herd are Ajdin Penava (16.7 PPG; 9.1 RPG), Rondale Watson (11.7 PPG; seven games) and Jarrod West (10.3 PPG).

Middle Tennessee is 21-8 ATS in their last 29 versus Conference USA and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 Thursday games. The Raiders are also 30-14 ATS in their last 44 overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games.

Meanwhile, Marshall is 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS win. The Herd are also 4-1 ATS in their last five versus Conference USA and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 home games.

Despite their solid record over the last five games, the Blue Raiders haven’t been terribly impressive on offense. Middle Tennessee has been great on defense though, allowing a high of 66 points (in OT) in that time. As for Marshall, they’ve been scoring but have also given up a lot of points lately.....

They are supposed to have their big man back for this game. He is a good shot blocker but I don't think he does much on offense. We need to step on their throats early and keep their crowd out of it.

Charleston Gazette Mail:
Middle Tennessee brings long streak to Marshall

excerpt:

...The Thundering Herd (12-6, 3-2) has lost five straight to the Blue Raiders. That has included two tournament knockouts, the last being an 83-72 decision in the 2017 championship game.

“We remember the taste they left us with after beating us in that championship game,” said Marshall’s Jon Elmore, C-USA’s leader in scoring and assists. “Being so close to the [NCAA] tournament, so we’ve definitely had this date marked on our calendars, and we’re looking forward to it.” .....

Herd fan here! Excited for the matchup tonight, hope it's a good game. We are supposed to have Penava back tonight but if he's anywhere near 100% remains to be seen. But offensively he's a pretty big weapon for us as he averages almost 17 a game (16.7 to be exact). But, while we can make up scoring in Dantoni's system what we've really been missing is his rebounds and rim protection. Penava averages 9.1 boards and 5 blocked shots per game. Most Herd fans feel like had we had his production (at 100%) against ODU we would be sitting at 4-1 in league play instead of 3-2. As it stands the next three games (MT, UAB and WKU) are a huge stretch for us and we've got to find a way to win 2/3 to stay in contention. If there are any Raider fans coming to the game tonight hope you have safe travels heading to and from the Henderson Center in the nasty weather we are having.

Good luck and let's hope it's a good game and a great showcase for our conference on national TV.

I did not realize he averaged that much a game, so he is definitely an offensive weapon for you guys. The interesting matchup to watch will be him versus Walters our center. He is a solid defender when he is not in foul trouble which has been quite a bit.

He's a very European style big. Can shoot the 3 well, can put the ball on the floor and handle it pretty well too. But, he's also pretty lanky and at times not very aggressive. He gets a lot of blocks in help D but straight up can be pushed around. He's really more of a 4 than a 5. But, we have such a height deficiency he's forced to play the 5.

Bein on Comcast, but says I need a subscription. I already have sports pkg. Any idea why Bein is not active with that?

cant find a single stream of this game anywhere online...

Nick King 0 points, 2 turnovers, and benched to start the game. Great way to start this road trip.

Rough start so far. Pretty typical og this team this year.

Yea. Starting to wonder if I need to bet the farm against this team in the first half. Marshall catching +2.5 for the first half might have been the bet of the century.

We couldn’t have played worse offensively and only down 2 at the half. Need to get King going.

Rough start, but we weathered their emotion and when it’s all said and done, if we shot our normal FT % we are actually up 1 right now.

I would like to see us put a full game together one time this year.

Kermit desperately needs to recruit some players that can create their own shots. Are offense is just ugly.

when you turn the ball over like that, you deserve to lose
