Blue Raiders host Charlotte for the first time

excerpt:

...The Charlotte 49ers and Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders play Saturday at the Murphy Athletic Center.

The Charlotte 49ers have split their last four games and play their ninth true road game. On the season, Charlotte is averaging 73.4 points on 45.8 percent shooting and is allowing 73.5 points on 43.6 percent shooting. Torin Dorn is averaging 12.6 points and 3.9 rebounds while Pierria Henry is averaging 11.3 points and 5.6 assists. Braxton Ogbueze is the third player averaging double-digit points and Willie Clayton is grabbing 6.8 rebounds. The Charlotte 49ers have seven players averaging at least 7.6 points, and they're shooting 60.9 percent from the line and 36.7 percent from beyond the arc. Defensively, Charlotte is allowing 35.2 percent shooting from deep and has given up 72 or more points in four of its last six games.

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have won four of their last five games and look for their fifth C-USA win. On the season, Middle Tennessee is averaging 60.3 points on 40.2 percent shooting and is allowing 60.1 points on 42.9 percent shooting. Reggie Upshaw Jr. is averaging 9.6 points and 6.1 rebounds while Jacquez Rozier is averaging 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds. Jaqawn Raymond is dishing 1.8 assists and Darnell Harris is shooting 46.9 percent from the field. The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders have seven players averaging at least 5.1 points, and they're shooting 70 percent from the line and 35.4 percent from deep. Defensively, Middle Tennessee is allowing 34 percent shooting from downtown and has given up 64 or less points in eight of its last nine games.

The 49ers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Blue Raiders are 22-8-1 ATS in their last 31 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

While I throught Charlotte had a chance to compete for a C-USA title, it's not exactly reaching its full potential. Meanwhile, MTSU is starting to find a groove and has been lights out ATS on its home court.

Raiders got it down to 3 about midway through the 2nd half, but Charlotte has upped their lead back to 7 with 7:55 left.

59-52 49ers.

Raiders complete the comeback and win 72-69 over Charlotte. Great second half effort out there, especially considering they had zero timeouts for the last 17 minutes or so..

Saturday officials in C-USA are no better than those we had in The Belt. As for me, wish all games could be on nights when we could get better stripes.

Great win. Charlotte has a good team. I was really impressed with Ivory tonight.

Charlotte was long and athletic. Refs sucked all night long, both ways, but moreso in favor of Charlotte. Amazed we were able to keep it close in the first half as bad as we were shooting. We had good looks, just couldn't get anything to fall. Very proud of the guys for never giving up and bringing home that win.

Proud of our win!! That win was teamwork, determination, and crowd energy.

Another bonus, UTEP was upset by Marshall.

Climbing the standings. Keep this play up consistently and Blue Raiders will be C-USA Champions in March. This team has heart and the will to win!

One in particular, Bryan Kersey, I think his name was, did not call anything in favor of Middle Tennessee, all night long. He was pretty much criminal in the way he was making some calls.

Attendance was just a shade under 5k. Similar to Thursday's game against Old Dominion. The makeup of last night's crowd was a little different than Thursday's crowd. Last night there was a smaller student turnout but larger community turnout.

He was just dying to give Kermit a "T" during the last few minutes of the game when he made another horrendous call and KD expressed his opinion. He stood at the official's table and just stared KD down, appeared to want KD to say something else so he could T him up. Fortunately KD showed more restraint than I could.

I did a google on him ealier this morning, and the guy was part of a crew in a game with utep and ecu a few years back where Tim Floyd got two technicals, one apparently undeserved and the second well deserved. Floyd protested and pretty well went ballistic and the officials had the cops escort him out.
