I am ok with a split on the next two...Would like the win against Ga State for sure since they are in our region.

Well Ivory may have another concussion. He ran into that guy hard and Kermit immediately took him out.

Good to have the lead at the half. Especially without our best shooter. We need to be more aggressive on the offensive end, however.

I tell you what though. Ron Hunter is giving gonzo at WKU a run for his money as the biggest cry baby in college basketball

We played a horrible game and still lost by only 2 with our best player on the bench. I want to know what was up with Giddy.

This kind of crap just irritates me. listening to radio broadcast and not a single word said while I have been listening about Potts.

Way too many defensive lapses, and guard play took a step back. Point guard has the o be the steady hand of the team no matter what, and that wasnt the case tonight

Academic issues? If this is the case it seems more than a 1 game suspension.

Couldn't really make much out of Kermit's cryptic post game comments about Giddy other than just something academically he needs to fix????

Another reason I am cautious about Kermit ball. CUSA is a one bid league and losing to a sunbelt school with a star player out irritates me because tourney or bust with these losses.

I think I'm about concerned or even more concerned about Giddy Potts playing status as I am the one loss at Ga State. Don't get me wrong, I hate any loss for MTSU. I especially hate any loss to a SunBelt program. Although I hate the loss, I'm not really angry or super disappointed about this particular loss.

I think most remember the almost historic victory Ga State had in the NCAA tourney last year vs Baylor IIRC. Ga State is a really good team. Beyond their high quality on display tonight vs MTSU, Ga State has a demonstrated history of not just being one of the any also rans in the SunBelt in basketball. They've been dominating the conference in basketball since they arrived a couple/few seasons ago. Before that, they were in the high quality and competitive colonial conf that produced VCU, ODU, and George Mason etc. For those with a foggy memory, that was the same group that had sweet 16 AND Final Four runs in the last 5-10 years. For those programs that didn't go to FBS conferences, a lot of those programs are now A-10 teams. My point, Ga State is no slouch. They were and are an improvement to the SBC in basketball.

Regarding tonight's loss, it was a hard fought game that came down to the last shot in the last seconds. While MT made some mistakes throughout the game, MT fought hard in this game IMO. I imagine it's one of those deals where Ga State and MT play 10 times, both teams win 5 based on tonight's game. With GIddy Potts playing, the outcomes just might be different IMO. It looked to me that MT's backcourt is where MT struggled the most. I'd argue that Giddy Potts is likely the best backcourt player this year. So, it hurt having Giddy out.

So what about upcoming games and the start of the conference season? Will G Potts be available? That is what has me concerned the most. G Potts is a key contributor to the team and especially in the backcourt. I hate to think about the conf race without Giddy. So, I'm am wondering just what is the situation. I hoping that real soon someone can provide some info so that us fans know what the heck is going on.

Another thought:

I know Kermit tends to be old school in some ways that he coaches. I actually can appreciate a lot of that. I like the toughness and fight for example. Some things have changed in this modern information age. People are used to and almost expect to get info pretty rapidly concerning the things that interest them. I think some of these changes in player status is something that could use some improvement for Kermit and the basketball program. I know NCAA policies and some laws limit some info, and they can just say that. In a lot of these situations, us invested and highly interested fans just don't know what the heck is going on.

I think Kermit might find some fans to be a little more understanding and/or supportive if they knew a little something about what was going on with the team. IMO, the loss of Giddy Potts tonight likely made the difference between a MT win and a MT loss. I say that particularly after watching the backcourt struggle just about all game. A strong physical scorer and ball handler who is aggressive to the basket and who can knock down big 3s would have been just what the doctor ordered tonight.

Ga State is a very good team. And we lose to good teams with poor to average guard play, especially in crunch time and we were on the road. Not a bad loss. I was hoping for a split, so now on to SDSU. This game would be important to win.

I agree about now being in the information age. If you hadn't heard the brief mention in the pre-game show that Potts wouldn't play and that more information would be forthcoming after the game you wouldn't have known anything (apparently not mentioned during the radio broadcast). As for the Ga. St. TV announcers (I watched the game on Watch ESPN) - you could tell they hadn't done any homework or Potts' absence would have been mentioned.

Concerning in that the official end of the Fall semester (last day for exams) was Dec. 10. Potts played against both Auburn (Dec. 12) and Belmont (Dec. 17). Why an "academic issue" now? Surely we aren't talking about forfeiting those two games.

Perhaps most concerning is that Davis didn't seem too optimistic when he said the "hoped" Potts could get these issues corrected. But, it gives me some hope that Potts was allowed to travel with and dress out with the team.

I agree with the last few mentioned statements above. Im more concerned with Potts' absence than I am this loss Ga. State is a good basketball. If you recall correctly Kevin Ware is the kid from Louisville who broke his leg against Duke a few years back in the NCAA tournament. He is a player and has more big game experience than our whole team combined. When the game was tight down the stretch he pretty took over. We will be fine (especially if we can get Giddy back). Beat the Jackrabbits and thrash Trevecca and get ready for conference play

Yea, that is what has me confused. If it's academics as in grades and qualifying, I would expect that would have been known at the end of the semester and not a couple of weeks later. I'm also thinking that coaches are limited in what they can say about academics i.e. grades. If that's the case, I think coaches can just say that by policy they can't talk about details. Whatever the case, the first thing that came to mind for me is it a situation where a professor allowed some extra time for Giddy to complete exam or project? If so, could be that Giddy hadn't taken care of something like that immediately? Once the coaches found out, he sits until it's done so that he doesn't get a bad grade. One of the reasons that came to mind is that I had a similar situation one time in my years at school. Obviously, athletics weren't involved for me. I took care of the matter within 5 days or so for the professor to be able to get the grade in.

Obviously, I'm speculating here. It would be nice to have a better idea. It's just the timing and possibly limited to only a game or few games that is puzzling. You would think that if it was overall grades, he would be done for the upcoming semester. You would also think that would have been known days ago if not a week or two ago closer to the end of the semester.

Whatever the case, I hope the young man gets things sorted out. He is also a strong contributor to the team in the backcourt. He reminds me of Marcos Knight. Maybe even a Marcos Knight with a better 3pt shot.
