FOOTBALL Looking ahead to FIU

One thing I think we can say, amid all the losing, is that the players are still putting forth effort during the game. At least to this point. Good for them.
Yes, that has been impressive.

and the defense has played pretty well considering they aren’t getting much help from the offense in regards to points and time of possession.

To this point is right. One thing most losing teams have in common is that, at some point, the coach loses the team and it gets much worse. Yes, that's possible.

From an analytics perspective this shows not only just how bad this team is but also it’s a measure of the program’s talent in some respects. Take for example there are five “points separating #25 from number #46. There are five points just between UNT at #111 and us at 112. That’s bad. Like orders of magnitude bad. We have now reached UTEP and ULM level bad. We’re Charlotte level bad their first year or two of their existence when we posted 70 on them. This how far we have fallen.

Yet, still crickets out of the Univ leadership. This is not something that’s going to be fixed by firing the running backs coach in mid-January. We all already know a house cleaning is needed, but statistically it’s right there for everyone to see. It’s about as damning of viable information as you’re going to be able to find from an objective analytics perspective vs a subjective and emotional point of view. Honestly, with all the data to include 15 seasons of .500 football that is itself propped up by beating teams like we now are is about as much proof as any athletic administration has ever had to make a decision to change the status quo.

Let me put this another way. No President and AD has ever had as much data in the history of college football to visualize a deteriorating program in terms of making a prudent decision. The sad thing is this isn’t even a hard decision (except for the fact of that ludicrous dumbass buyout Stock has).

Who cares........what matters is W's. Where do we rank in that category @MTFootball???

It takes a lotta nerve to tout “Individual” stats when the “Team” is 0-4, ranked dead last in CUSA and 112th in the ESPN rankings out of 114. Keeping in mind over 50% of the FBS Div. has played only 1 or 2 games.

This is EXACTLY what is wrong with the “Culture” at MT Athletics.

This is the first year I've seen this on other online platforms. I honestly think part of the problem is most of the MT fan base just doesn't believe MT is supposed to be good. They've bought the ESPN hook, line, and sinker that only SEC and Big 10 matter in college football and therefore MT football is just the side freak show at the carnival to the main event. I swear I think that's how most people think (and I'm also a UT alum) as it has played out that way every year with most of the comments you see on places like FB.

Most comments have always been awe shucks that Stockstill is doing about as good of a job as could ever be done at a school like MT. It's interesting to even see the broader massess starting to let it sink in that maybe what's playing out here isn't actually ok.

It almost happened at Memphis but it’s a bit of a different situation there. They have a big Tiger Basketball contingent of boosters who spend their Fall Saturdays in Knoxville, Oxford, Fayetteville and Starkville. They did not support Tiger Football and couldn’t care less if it went away as long as they made the NCAA Tourney every year (legally or illegally).

Thankfully, the FedEx Chairman had a son playing football for the Tigers at the time. Major boosters bought in. They cleaned house from top to bottom. The end results were a first ever Liberty Bowl bid and sellout in 2018 vs. Iowa State and last year’s Cotton Bowl bid with a respectable showing against a much bigger Penn State program. I still have pictures of the Memphis crowd we took to Dallas. It was 10x the 4,500 diehards who showed up for an empty stadium ESPN broadcast vs. ECU in Tommy West’s last season.

I’ve experienced two fun bowl trips with MT where I felt our chances to win were really good. The ‘09 NOLA Bowl was fantastic. Ft. Worth was a fun trip even though we lost and had no defense against the kid from Goodpasture Christian.

It can be done but it takes strong leadership and vision from the top. (BOT, President, and AD) Not people who just want to get along, show up and be bowl eligible at 6-6 every year to get an 800,000 check.
