BASKETBALL Kermit Davis agrees to new contract

dnj with details of the new contract:

Davis' new contract worth more than $500K

...According to Davis' contract, which extends through 2024, the 15th-year head coach will make $465,000 in base salary from MTSU. He will receive an additional $100,000 from TV and radio obligations.

Davis' base salary increases from the $375,000 he was making in his previous contract. The Daily News Journal first reported Davis' eight-year extension June 21.....

First impression, good! He deserves a good pay raise especially after the Big Dance win. This raise was due with the last 4 or 5 years of good success. I'm guessing that puts him solidly in the top half of C-USA in HC pay.

I think this puts Kermit and MT is a good place for further growth. Slowly and steadily building a top program with the same coach over these years hopefully will continue to work out swimmingly for MT and Kermit for years to come.

BTW, there are absolutely no excuses for the typical fan in the university community to stay away from The Glass House this season.

Actually, I think all the existing fans are attending. We just don't have enough of them. The better question is how do we get a core group of students (6-800) each game to come and how do we get new fans.

One of my biggest disappointments (and there have been many) as a Blue Raider fan has been the failure of men's BkB attendance to explode with the recent success over the last five years.

I understood the malaise which affected the fan base over the 20+ years of mediocrity. That I could accept. What I have such a hard time with is the lack of excitement returning to The Murph which existed during the period prior to Farrar, Weil, and the first years of Davis. With the growth of the school, local community, and surrounding area we should be doing much better at the turnstiles. The quality of the recent play deserves the making of every home game an event.

I am to the point that I will be happy if we just show incremental growth next year. Sad that it's come to that.

I've wondered about start times for games if the games were moved to 7:30 if that would have a positive impact. 7PM starts seem to make it a push to be able to make to games especially on a week night commute home, quick dinner, grab the kids and go.

In ancient times IIRC all BkB games started at 7:30 and, barring OT, were over by 9:15 giving me plenty of time to get home (outside of Rutherford Co.) and catch the 10:00 weather and sports.

Of course, at the time all FB games were at 7:00 early in the season and at either 1:00 or 1:30 late in the season when cooler weather set in. No worries about knowing when to show up for a game before college sports venues became TV studios.
