It's official: the Obama administration hates it when you have cheap Keystone oil.

By: Diary)[/URL] | January 6th, 2015 at 04:00 PM |

It only took three relentless Congressional electoral cycles to get Barack Obama to admit it, too. Not that the administration wants to admit it, even now. They just ran out of options:

The White House on Tuesday for the first time issued a veto threat over Republican-backed legislation to approve the Keystone pipeline, setting up a likely showdown between President Obama and the GOP-controlled Congress in the coming weeks.

"If this bill passes this Congress, the president wouldn't sign it," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday, stressing that the president wants to wait for a State Department review process to finish.

Free translation: President Barack Obama thinks that your heating and gasoline bills are far too low as it is, and God forbid that either should get any lower! - Certainly that's what Obama's rich, indeed fat-cat hardcore Green buddies think*; and it turns out that they speak much more loudly in the President's ear than can, say, blue collar unions**. Not that anybody was really expecting anything different, but now we can spend the next two years hammering home just who the President thinks is worth his time and attention. Spoiler warning: there are entire factions of the Democratic party that don't measure up to Obama's rather arrogant standards, and they're not going to enjoy discovering that.

*It is honestly fascinating to contemplate the world-view of a hardcore Green. These people were raised in our society, which means presumably they had at least some exposure to mainstream American values; and yet they truly would rather see people be cold, hungry, and in the dark rather than have those people burn hydrocarbons for heat and light. Their self-appointed 'elitist' leadership is even worse: they've made their own arrangements to keep themselves fed, lit, and warm - and they have no intention whatsoever to put themselves through the same low-tech, industrial-free hell that they advocate for the rest of humanity. :shaking head: I guess you're always going to find people who think that they're simply better than the rest of us…

**Frankly, all unions should be blue collar (I include firefighters and cops in that). Why a bureaucrat needs an actual union to keep his or her job is one of this era's minor, or possibly not so minor, stupidities.

Folks, for the Greenies and the radical liberals this debate is not about the Keystone Pipeline, it's not about energy independence, it's not about which type of crude oil is used or needed where, it's not about green energy and renewable energy sources. It IS about the destruction of capitalism. Inexpensive, abundant energy is the driving force behind every successful economy. Read your history books. The huge economic boom that transformed America from a ragtag collection of former colonies that couldn't win their independence without the help of the French (the French, for crying out loud!) into the greatest economic superpower the world has ever known that had the ability to supply arms and materiel to her allies in 2 World Wars and have enough left over to rebuild 2 continents was fueled by cheap energy. Consider that oil permitted the great unwashed to heat their homes and light their way with a smaller percentage of their productivity (wages) than ever before. Consider that cheap energy permitted farmers to raise food that required a smaller percentage of a middle class income than anywhere or anytime in the history of mankind. And all of those "leftover" earnings could be put towards the accumulation of wealth by individuals. Yes, Rockefeller got obscenely rich. But everybody else in the country was better off than they were before. Cheap energy is the primary driver of a successful CAPITALIST economy. And that is the problem greenies have with Keystone and every other energy initiative. It will promote capitalism and a successful economy. Have you never wondered why every solution to global warming or climate change or whatever the malaise of the day is involves taxing the wealthy countries and successful companies? Greenies don't care about the environment. It's a concept that is too large for them to even comprehend. All they care about is controlling and manipulating the economy so that everyone is equally miserable and therefore subject to the State for their daily needs. It is all about control. Why do you suppose the EPA issues massive amounts of regulation that kill business? Having waded through the myriad regulations of the EPA, it is abundantly clear that clean air and clean water, while the stated purpose of the agency, is not even a blip on the radar of the greenies promulgating those regulations. It is all about control of the company and control of the economy. The government cannot force you to live the way it wants you to, eat what it thinks you should, have the health care it believes you should have, drive the vehicle it wants you to, or be otherwise completely dependent on your proper lords and masters in the government if you have your own wealth. Energy independence is anathema to the left precisely because it gives more people control of their own wealth. Making even the rich dependent on the state is exactly the transformation of America that Obama and his fellow travelers have longed for since Woodrow Wilson.

Its been six years for the State Department to issue their report, SIX YEARS. For the life of me, still trying to figure out why the State Dept even has a say.

Yeah, because trains are so much safer....Or is it because trains are run by Obama Supporter, Buffet? And trains are how we are moving oil from the North...where was your concern when a train loaded for oil derailed and exploded on the border of Maine and Canada and 37 people were killed last year?

No one wants a spill, but piplelines are the SAFEST and most efficient way to transport oil over land. Didn't the POTUS talk about infrastructure improvements last night? Keystone is an infrastructure improvement.

Where was my outrage? I compained about that issue as well and stated that we needed to move away from fossil fuels but you should know that because apparently you know everything about me and my position on things, right? Look, we have enough oil. We don't need this pipeline. No f-ing trains and no pipelines with oil need to go through more of our countryside. Stop being idiots and start using that space between your ears and think about those that will come after us.

Also that pipeline is not an improvement. Its a hinderance. He was talking about roads and bridges. Stop being a knucklehead. That sounded like something Lynn would say. On a side note; Disneyland is full of measles because of him and his ilk.

I didn't read the article, I was responding to your comment about pipeline. We are talking about transporting oil from the north and then you jump into future generalizations. I have no idea what measles has to do with this conversation.

I am with you, would love a day with no fossil fuels if that "new" feul was as efficient and affordable, but until that technology is readily available we need oil. You cannot wish it all into existence. The truth is this pipeline is nothing but politics for the left - this is your grand stand against oil. The irony, it is the oil developments (more than any other single factor) that have saved our economy and is responsible for most of the slow growth we have had. Look at the number of new jobs created in TX, SD, ND.

The technology won't just suddenly jump out and present itself out of some sort of self aware transcendence. Just like air traffic control systems, roads and highways, armies, police departments, space exploration and pn and on and on, it took the government to stary the initial push and then things got going. EVs need some tax breaks and inffrastructure aid to help them get off the ground. This pipeline isn't a political ploy, its a line in the sand. Those jobs you mention are nothing compared to the massive amount of Shit that goes into our ground water each year because we refuse to do something about our dependency on oil. Have you ever tried to eat, drink or breath oil? We can't go on like this.

A few thousand temporary jobs and you guys are ready to sell your souls. Good grief.
These jobs are important and for many, a lifeline. That is why Keystone XL has the complete support of major trades and manufacturing unions across the U.S. Why do you believe hook, line and sinker what leftist politicians are saying.
Direct/Indirect Jobs
Keystone XL would support 42,100 direct and indirect jobs during construction of the pipeline contributing to approximately $2 billion in wages throughout the United States. Delays have prevented these jobs from being realized.
Manufacturing Jobs
Keystone XL has supported more than 7000 jobs from the billions spent in sourcing the goods and services in North America. From motors and drives manufactured by Little Rock, Arkansas, the Keystone XL project has contracts with 50 suppliers in the United States.
Economic Activity
Keystone XL will generate a significant amount of economic activity in the United States; the most significant benefits will be felt by the residents and counties where the pipeline is constructed.
TransCanada will be a substantial tax payer in many of the counties in which Keystone XL crosses. In 2012 alone approximately $37 million in property taxes were derived from the Keystone Pipeline being operational, increasing to $44 million in 2013. These additional revenues have helped address local infrastructure needs like roads, bridges, hospitals and other facilities that improve the standard of living for Americans.
The FSEIS projects that seventeen out of 27 counties which Keystone XL crosses are expected to see tax revenues increase by 10 per cent or more. This would contribute to approximately $3.4 billion to U.S. GDP and an overall economic boost for America. Its more than just a few jobs.

Mike, you know as well as I do that Democrats really don't want to create jobs. People choose to be poor and then complain about it, blame others for it, and demand more. Democrats keep them that way to extort their votes. It's just another form of voter fraud.

A few things: I question your numbers. Even if they are correct its still not a good idea. For one I would expect msnufacturing etc to support it. Manufacturing is more interested in production than anything else. We already have pipelines coming from that area to the gulf. None of this oil will stay in the US. That shows you how much keystone and big oil care. I would be willing to compromise and let it go through for more movement on electrical infrastructure. But I don't see us needing the gas with opec pumping it out, not that we would get any from this pipeline.

Not everyone can be middle class. That's just a fact of the system. Be careful with that we" choose to be poor crap " because with a shrinking middle class (much of which is due to healthcare costs ), you could be next.

Not everyone has a victimization mindset. Take for example Linn Yann, a Cambodian labor camp survivor who nearly won the National Spelling Bee just four years after learning her first word of English and today is a successful pharmaceutical sales person. Read her story below, especially the quote, "The drive to better ourselves was what got us to where we are now."

Question: Whatever happened to Cambodian labor camp survivor and local spelling bee champion Linn Yann?

Answer:
Since 1983, when the young Cambodian refugee shocked Chattanooga and the nation by nearly winning the National Spelling Bee just four years after learning her first word of English, Linn Yann has grown up and built a successful career in pharmaceutical sales.

Now 42, Linn Yann Carroll lives with her husband and 2-year-old daughter in South Carolina. She worked in broadcast journalism for many years, but 13 years ago she wanted a change, said her sister, Yieng Yann, 44.

Often, Linn comes home to Chattanooga where she is famous for her teenage success and also a Disney TV movie, "The Girl Who Spelled Freedom," which was made about her life and shown in 1986.

"People still see her as well known," Yieng Yann said.

Life in America has been a far cry from what Linn and her siblings experienced in their early years. In Cambodian labor camps, the children were kept separate from their family, forced to dig ditches, plant rice fields and build roads from before sunrise to sunset.

They ate roots and berries to survive. When the Vietnamese took over the camp, her family and others trekked to Thailand, where American aid workers rescued them and brought them to Chattanooga.

Their mother still lives in Hixson, in the first home the family owned after escaping the camps in Cambodia, where Yann's father died. And several of Linn's five siblings still live in Chattanooga. One brother works in commercial real estate and owns a CrossFit gym. Another works in the steel business. She has a sister who is a church educator and another who works in finance.

"The drive to better ourselves was what got us to where we are now," said Yieng Yann.

Whatever happened to ...

Not everyone can be middle class. It is impossible and that's a fact. Back to the op. This pipeline does little for us and risks a lot.

BRF,

Actually if we DON"T build the pipeline it will be shipped overseas. The idea is to send it to TX so it can be refined into many products. That is what they do in Houston, they take crude oil and refine it into gas for cars, diesel, jet fuel, materials that involve plastics, Televisions, asphalt, etc, etc.. Meanwhile, it makes no sense to buy ME oil and have it shipped from around the world then using Canadian oil. So no, most if it will not be exported. Keep in mind, both Venseula and Mexican oil production is slowing.

Meanwhile we need the capacity, because trains are not the most efficient means to move the crude.

The same people putting in this pipeline have already had other pipelines burst. We have a shit ton of oil coming out of OPEC now. We don't need this pipeline and we probably won't need it for years.

Gridlock: Democrats Block Keystone Bill

"Democrats in the US Senate blocked the Keystone XL pipeline bill from moving forward on Monday, but supporters of the project vowed to push ahead and eventually get a vote on the measure."

Now, this headline: "Senate Blocks Swift Passage of Keystone XL Pipeline Bill." But that's not right. See, this is classic. The Democrats blocked it. The Democrats blocked passage of the Keystone XL. And so where are the cries of gridlock, folks? Normally something like this would happen, if the Republicans were responsible for shutting down action on some bill, the Drive-Bys would report the Republicans were to blame. It's all their fault, classic example of gridlock and they'd rake them over the coals for not working with the Democrats and not cooperating with Obama. Not cooperating and not wanting to get things done and not wanting Washington to work. The obstructionist Republicans, right.

Now, here comes the Keystone XL pipeline, the Democrats in the Senate shoot it down. This story from Reuters says the Senate shoots it down. Everybody knows the Republicans just won control of the Senate, so it looks like the Republicans shut it down. The Democrats did it, that's not even in the story, much less is there any hand-wringing over gridlock.

You have to have a large amount of blocks and develop a pattern before its time to cry foul. One incident doesn't mean there is a larger problem.

Jesus, it was 1976...our vaccines are a lot safer now. Open heart surgery was a huge deal back then. Now they run a stent up your veins. Get a life. You and people like you are being duped and your causing others harm. Take off the tin foil hat.

It is painfully obvious that that you haven't watched the 60 minutes piece or you whould know that the 1976 swine flu pandemic was a SCAM from start to finish.

Too many chicken littles such as yourself swallow what "authorities" tell you.

Just because they hype it a bit to be certain that most people go doesn't mean it was a scam. Also, even if it was, that's all you got; one issue with one vaccine. Next Youll post from "The Natural News."

Once again, it is PAINFULLY, obvious that you didn't watch the 60 minutes piece. There is nothing about the 1976 swine flu pandemic that was true. From start to finish it was a scam.

What I don't understand is that you vilify monsanto - and rightfully so - but worship the drug pushers when they are all owned by the same people. It is two heads of the same monster.

Monsanto is trying to gain a monopoly on our food supplies. Vaccines work and I've seen it with my own eyes. When I was a boy it was not that unusual to see someone with polio. Now it is very rare. That's just one example. There are many others.

Neither is safe. Trains don't run through the areas they want the pipee to go through. Both provide jobs. Get rid of all of it. Go high capacity electric.
