It's both of us or neither

Bring your own lube, M & M will shove it up the fan base as hard as they can, what little base there is left.

If we don’t move… knowing that we will both be accepted… I’m just not sure how much more many of us can take

My guess:

We will be able to afford new facilities if we stay in CUSA

We will not be able to afford new facilities if we go MAC

This has caused a huge internal discussion/difficult decision.

Yes our facilities will matter so much when the new CUSA gets thrown down to FCS by the rest of the D1 while MAC stays in its 75 year FBS home (not saying it's likely but this new NCAA constitution certainly makes it possible). MAC has history, new CUSA has La Tech, FCS teams, and New Mexico State/UTEP.

To be completely honest, I've lost interest in our football and MBB programs over the last few years. Part of it is living so far away - I try to watch the big games but just do not care that much now. I'm not even a real alum of MT though I did a summer semester. I love the school, grew up going to games years ago, but it just gets so tiring after a while. I have other schools I care about (like my actual alma mater and local schools near where I live now) and so do many, many folks who are either alums, took courses at MT, or are friends/fans of the university. To be real with y'all the only team I can see myself caring about if we turn down the MAC is the WBB program. I know it's not popular but it's the one that's been most consistently successful and for me personally is the most enjoyable (let's be honest who enjoys watching losers like FB/MBB). MAC at least gives a change, something new to capture folks' imaginations again... new CUSA is just an even worse step lower on the ladder we seem to keep stumbling down.

With the changes coming the P5(4) will split from the G5 in football. It won't matter what conference we are in as far as that goes.

Whether we stay or go, two things are happening.

1) We are actually evaluating the impacts from the decision. Not just an emotional knee jerk reaction. That is a positive development.

2) We are evaluating potential future options to see where we would have opportunities. And one of those I believe is the MAC. And before someone even says it (ah man no way they would ever invite us again if we decline) I’m going to address that in advance.

If the MAC truly wants both of us, then I don’t believe the MAC would hold it against us for staying a few more years in the interest of some serious financial considerations. I can assure you every single MAC president understands this. In other words, I don’t necessarily believe that if we say no now we won’t have a chance again. I mean we said no to them once for much less financial implications and they are willing to invite us again. In fact, I think the MAC would probably much more prefer MT coming into the league in better financial condition than we would be right now.

There’s a bigger picture here. I know it’s hard envision. I had an emotional reaction to all this initially too. The fact that we are taking the evaluation of this seriously is the first time in a long time I’ve actually developed a moment of confidence in them. Hang in there folks!!

Well - I'm giving just a very small bit of appreciation for MT at least considering the options in terms of finances, rather than making a dumb mistake. But like Wiley says - it will still be the wrong decision either way. Ha

I do feel like CUSA has/will become the laughing stock of football by the mainstream though based on the teams that will be left. MAC has been around forever and I really enjoyed the games last week, so sign me up unless financially MT can get a big check from CUSA and they use it wisely to fire both coaches and build some facilities. I live in TX and the high school stadium and indoor facilities are 10 times better than anything MT has.

I wish I had your optimism. I think your points about MAC not needing an immediate decision are really spot on. It's been whispered about for a while that they really have no urgency to expand. Though again, the M&M issue just really overrules everything... It's definitely good that they're taking a good look at this but it's been said over and over by folks on both sides of the MAC/CUSA divide that whatever they choose has a high likelihood of being a very bad choice... Though unfortunately it's entirely possible the MAC later says too bad, so sad, we want WKU and UMass or something. That worries me too.

How about you and WKU stay and CUSA disinvites SHSU and J'Ville. Might save the impending split.

I don't think UMass is going back to the MAC. The darkhorse candidate nobody is talking about it EKU. Their football stadium is D-1 FBS ready and they are right next to a major interstate. They are 200 miles to Ohio U. and 150 to Miami U. 200 to Ball State, 160 to WKU. You can't blame MTSU for not wanting to leave a single dollar on the table they might be able to pocket in the move... but they better be good at poker. It would be a bad feeling to lose that spot in the MAC to an OVC school. (If EKU can get out of their pending ASUN thing). Or worse... lose that spot to Austin Peay or North Alabama who is just now getting to be officially FCS finally. Or Murray who doesn't even have a visitor side on that football stadium. Or Chattanooga that has a big on campus basketball arena but well off campus football stadium.

I just send an email to M/M voicing my support of a MAC move. At least I can sleep at night knowing I did all I personally could to make this happen.

I sent one to Massaro a bit ago as well doing the same thing.

If M&M's hesitancy or rejection of MAC is reasonable and sound, the MAC & WKU will likely respect decision. If it's unreasonable and usual poor leadership, then more burned bridges.

Todd Stewart is genius. He gets away with staying in CUSA but making it look like he wanted the MAC, but because MTSU wouldn’t come along they can’t go.

MTSU and Massaro becomes the fall guy, goat ****ers hate us even more now. Todd Stewart gets what he wants all along.
